i have a samurai and an escudo. the samurai has the 1600 8v in it and it flies up hills where the escudo has to be in a lower gear and pushed up. the 8 valve is generally better on and offroad. and if ya snap a cambelt ya wont need a new motor, in the 16 the motor will be toast, if you can get an 8 valve go for that and theres less parts=less problems

Would the escudo be any heavier?
So the 8v is better and bullet proof?

that debate can open a can of worms, ive got a 16v in my samurai and i swear its considerably faster than the 8v's i have driven, people harp on about more tourqe out of an 8v but at the end of the day tourqe / revs of motors comes from stroke and bore, and from what i have been told the stroke and bore is the same. 16v has more horses on paper, and bitches love horses, i personally would reccomend a 16v, but hey im just me. have a look on auszookers, they all rave about the 16, and there is a few very clever suzuki nuts on that site, not just the i pretend to be clever suzuki nuts.

16v is a quicker motor overall. Jsut slightly more prone to cracking heads due to manifolds etc. 8v slightly more has slightly more torque as the valves are larger in the head. same situation as the 16v and 20v 4age concept.
Both motors in my opinion are good.

Does fitting extractors to the 16v eliminate the head cracking tendancy or just reduce the chances of it happening?

yes the head problem is solved with extractors. The problem is the stock mani is very prone to cracking, and then pours head onto the head, people drive unaware and shank the head. If you are playing around with it you would be stupid not to put on coby extractors anyway, they are cleap and liven them up quite a lot too.

fitted extractors to mine and the standard manifold was cracked when i took it off the cobys are a nice easy install as well

2 inch body lift 35mm suspension lift replaced the front brakes with smaller ones for the 15 inch rims and ripped all the plastics and bits i dont need off, its a v6 so thats why it didnt get the 3inch lift kit
