what happens behind me is of no concern???
i'll have to find the pic of the guy i had tailgating me while holding onto his phone in one hand and drink bottle in the other!
not to mention one of many times i've been run off the road, the front camera very rarely gets the number plate......but the rear one does.
in my experience they all lie through their teeth straight to your face (and to police) so its really handy to get a full view of what happened.
why i like car cameras

Blackvue has no problem getting plates due to its quality. That's my experience.
It's also most peoples experience to have things happen in front of them, hence why 99% of all dash cams are mounted in the front not the rear. There's good reason for that.

If someone is on their phone tailgating? If they don't hit you? Though it's annoying who cares. And if they do hit you like what happened to me? I was in stationary traffic. The G forces when he hit me was recorded. No need for a rear cam.
Just my opinion.

apparently most people, its no1 complaint of nz drivers.
i think that someone intentionally harassing, doing something illegal and putting you in danger rates a tad higher than "who cares".
i've had heaps of close shaves where rear camera pick up the plate but not the front camera.
what would have happened if the car that hit you did a runner and was out of front camera range ?
especially if they had pushed you into another car. you could be liable for that cars damage. g meter may not show the double impact.

What would of happened? I'd be out of my car and up to the person responsible before they get the chance to blink, trust me!!

I'm glad you've caught lots of close shaved rear camera action and caught their plates. Good for you.

But. They call the cameras in car, "dashcam" because that's where they live. In the dash. Show me some rear camera action on youtube please.

Anyone that hasn't got one, I highly recommend them.
Re: why i like car cameras
don't forget they are made to prove that you didn't hit them, not prove that they hit you. theres plenty of multi cam systems around, been around for a long time. dash cams are popular because its simple, cheap and is often a requirement for insurance in some countries.
the main thing is cost. rear camera setups are generally expensive and require fixed installation.
i would not say that rear cams are useless.
