seeing as no one has decided on any dates, how does the 19th to the 22nd suit most, some could be longer or less, what ever suits.

I reckon that weekend would be the one, time for repairs, getting home etc before those with kids have to be at home.
I am waiting to hear back about Lake Daniels availability, most likely will only be available mid week, as weekends are pretty well booked out as far as I know til June July.

I'm keen, haven't done any good trips in my lux yet. Will be a good test for her. I'm sure if it all turns pear shaped for me, one of you fellas will get some kicks on giving me a tow

If you seriously breakdown, I'd say there won't be many spots where you can get towed.
The only time I went on a Reefton trip a few years back you needed a pretty capable truck otherwise you'll just slow everyone down.

Your truck will be fine mate, there will be afew different trips being run to suit the different trucks and skill levels. :D

ClassicCruiserSpares (Jase) might have done more South Island trips than Bulletproof (Richard). But in my limited opinion? To do ANY Reefton trip? A winch is a GREAT idea. Personally I think it's a must.
Going from all the interest in this trip? I'd guess only half would have a capable enough truck. But that's just my opinion.

I have been lucky enough to be able to hed to the Reefton area for around 20yrs ( basing myself all of next week 4wding in the area). The place has changed over the years but you can still pick and choose your tracks depending on your truck and your budget. Yes, you need a winch if doing Chasem or Slab Hut but no if you doing Montgomery or Nepoleon's.

Guess it depends how hard you want to go Pete.
I drove my IFS Surf through a lot of Reefton tracks, but none of the hard core ones.
You can drive a bog standard anything into Big River.
Larrys Creek, short drive then great walk to old stamping battery and small mine shaft
Montgomeries Hut, Waitahu
Napoleons Hill, Waipuna Tunnels
Petrol Hill, (winch needed if IFS)
Lake Hochstetter, Great camping
are all easier grade trips.

We have driven parts of Slab Hut Creek in IFS vehicles but that was several years ago, I gather it is a bit more technical now.
If you want harder, then the sky is the limit in Reefton.
With the likes of
The Chasm
Staircase
Bicycle track can be a bit of fun too.
And its not far to Westport for a bit more fun. :-)

And I'm guessing (just guessing) that if there's a few hardcore trucks going on this trip? They won't be going for just a walk in the park. Hey, you can do that in lots of places around NZ. They'll be traveling far and wide to being going on a special trip that lots of trucks won't be geared up for. But just my guessing tho.

I hear ya Pete, but there is no reason that other trucks can't get together and head off on an easier track on the day.
My truck isn't up to doing the hardcore stuff, I have a winch and a front locker but still missing a few bits of barwork.
But I plan on being there to tag along, grab a spare seat if possible. But I am also happy to head out for a cruisey day with some guys and head through the tunnels.
Just go prepared though.

Mikeymud 8) looking Surf you got there, looks like your family wagon :D if I can give you a bit of advice  ,

DON'T GO PLAYING WITH THE BIG BOY'S,

FITZY.

ps; let me explain, --- when I see a family vehicle with chrome bumpers, unmolested running boards, IFS, 2.4lt Diesel, No panel damage and little experience , I see an owner with a grin a mile wide that is going to turn to tears, Reefton or any tracks in the winter are going to hurt. I'm not trying to put you off or say you shouldn't, If it's your play vehicle ---- go for it, If it's your family vehicle that you drive to work or take the kids to where ever on Monday morning ------ take it easy. There is a good reason why all the big boy's and girl's hard yakka vehicles look like POS.

GET DIRTY.
