I read his Mag and he has adaptors for just about everything. Might give you more options on the engine choice.

A nice little 289 would be great. If you can wedge one in a MkII Cortina, it'll go in the Terrano ahhh the good old days

Edit: second thoughts, an electric motor would fit right in under your bonnet

Yes I know they look the same, but I want my truck re valued for insurance too, besides if I had an accident and the insurance co sees there is a non compliant motor in it, well id be in shitters ditch.

Its pretty annoying for a mechanic being handed a bunch of parts and a vehicle and being asked to put it back together
Any time/money you save removing it yourself will be taken up by the guy fitting it trying to figure out where things go

Looking through your build thread, I would say you'd easily have the aptitude to do an engine swap. A helper makes it a lot more fun. Its a pretty standard process regardless of mfr.

But I also understand the installation is part of a package deal, maybe theres a warranty etc

In any event it should really be the dog's balls by the time its finished.

Jeez, it never stops, does it?! Sometimes I wake up at 3am in a delirious state having lightbulb moments about rock slider designs or solid axle options.

I hear you lax2wlg, but I do not have the resources to do the install, nor the space.

All the suggestions posted have made sense and I have considered them all, but I think I will leave this one to the experts.

Tyres will be the next big expense after I smoke these ones with all the excess power I will have to burn.

PS; better get my ass into gear and alter the spare air con brackets I have to allow fitting my Sanden air con pump for on board air too. I want to keep the factory air con pump in place. (but this is for another post)

There is no issues with the motor at all.

I am only replacing it for a more powerful one to allow towing a bigger caravan.

The truck is booked in for next Monday for it's transplant . This will give me time to sort out another wee project in the mean time.

Well that's it; I have dropped the truck off, pick it up on Friday

They are also going to put in a new drive shaft hoop as the new certs do not allow the factory ones to be sufficient any more.

ripped mine out and got it replaced by some 3mm pipe. (huge diameter pipe lol) for the same reason.

I cant wait to hear it.

Just a slight hiccup; 1st the pulleys on the alternator were the wrong offset so this had to be swapped out to match the existing set-up and 2nd the sump was a different shape and would not fit - so out had to come the new engine.

I am so glad I am paying someone else to do this as it would take weeks for me to get all this sorted

Monday night I should be able to pick the truck up now.

It will be well worth the wait.

What shape are the sumps?

Same bolt pattern as td27? or completley different

I have no idea sorry, just got a phone call about it earlier today. They have never come across one like it before????

I cant find any pics of one to have a look at.

If they are the same bolt pattern (or shape around the top at least) i wonder if it might be an easy way for me to get back some up travel.

Sigh, not quite ready tonight. They were just tinkering with the fuel to air mix to get it just right. They were however, very pleased indeed with the road tests they have done, one fast truck

It has turned the truck into a real beast to say the least, only drove it home from Kaiapoi so not too much of a test. I can say on the road it is so sensitive on the throttle and VERY quick off the mark.

I cannot see any issues at all for off roading, just need to learn to keep my foot off the go pedal

There is only one teeny weeny wee problem, the handbrake light will not go out on the dash. We looked at all the vaccy hoses and checked the brake fluid plunger switch as well as the hand brake handle switch and all seem to be operating as one would expect.
I am thinking the hand brake handle switch may be faulty so I will look into it over the weekend when I have some daylight.


Oh and here's the plug for thems wot done it.

No hesitation in recommending Nathan Hammond at Kaiapoi Repowers Awesome work and service!

They did the following (from the top of my head, I may have missed something)
~Engine swap, and no it wasn't a straight forward bolt for bolt job, the sump is different and the torque converter(kept mine in there) does not line up either
~Alternator swap, now I have a 100A alty (but single pulley so I will have to do a rethink about how I am going to do my Sanden SD08 air compressor install now)
~Vacuum pump install
~Altered the outlet angle of the turbocharger to align better with my intercooler
~Repositioned the probe for the EGT gauge, it reads proper now
~Oils, filters and fluids
~Modified my injector pump to the QD specs
~Added a drive shaft hoop
~Reinstalled my intercooler and altered inlet pipework

Well worth the spend, esp as it is something I could not have achieved myself and I still would not attempt it, way out of my league.
The only other mod suggested is to put in a bigger airbox, but that means I will have to find somewhere else to mount the winch solenoid and wireless receiver? There is no real usable space left under that bonnet unless I move the power steering reservoir further toward the guard?

Have I missed anything?
