However, the bolts we used had sufficient area under the hexagonal head to allow a portion of the head to be ground off to provide the flat and still not pull through the flange. I'm also a bit wary about welding something on the head because these are high-tensile bolts and the heat treatment may be affected, resulting in a lower tensile strength.
But I guess for a purely off-road vehicle that hardly ever exceeds 50 Kph then it hardly matters.
