I LIKE this Jerry, I am gonna have to do similar to Korando, all I got is a light tin sheild, may keep it as a baking tray.... OHHH Bugger, yet ANOTHER mod to a new truck!

The baking tray got a fiendish hiding the last two trips, be a bit of a bugger to let all the firelighter fluid out, when miles from the road, neh?

[quote="Jerry"]Just some thoughts for newbies etc perhaps relax the towhook rule for the first couple of trips as long as they are easy trips, if it was a rallywoods trip I would insist on proper hooks but as its Terewhiti and easier then if you are a newbie then this is ok. I understand it takes time to get all the equipment sorted on your "Truck"

The expectation is that after the first trip or 3 then proper hooks are sorted, spade, first aid kit, extinguisher etc are there.

finally some sense, hopefully ill be there.......

Has the committee/executive rattified out tow hook rules for ORE trips? I know there has been extensive discussion and submissions on tow hooks and safety policy, can anyone advise of where these policys are at currently?

Thanks Ryan.... Now I remember seeing those

2. Rated recovery points, must be securely mounted to the front and rear of the vehicle with high-tensile bolts, as per the club recovery point policy. Welded hooks, tow balls or tie-down rings are not suitable for vehicle recovery.

has a seperate "recovery point policy" determined and rattified yet?

Terawhiti

Post by jdeburgh »

Depends where you go in Terawhiti, there are places you definately need good hooks and recovery gear as well as good tyres etc etc. and there are places on the main tracks where a shiney can go.

We spent a considerable amount of time last weekend pulling quite a few people out and saw quite a bit of damage on them because of the lack of proper equipment.

But a great place to visit. Especially when it was as wet as Labour weekend.

So do we insist on hooks or not or make the non hooked people stay on the track so to speak

I would say no hooks is OK if its not too wet and they do not go into muddy areas.

Just another comment, we go there quite often and have been for years now. The tracks if wet can be very slippery on the steep parts and AT's are not advised, particularily on the track up to the trig station (the road off to the right near the old stamping machine).

If it's dry then no problems - !!

We had one person on labour weekend turn up with no hooks and AT tyres on, we made them leave the truck there and they went with someone else.

I found it!! you were trying to hide it...
How do you get there? Via Red Rocks or cross country from South Makara Road?

The Red Rocks way could be dicey, you might lose your truck in the pea metal!

If your coming from Wellington go to Karori, then turn left by the church (war memorial) on the corner of South Makara Road, keep going up there and you'll come to a big shed on the right side of the road and a house and shed on the left (top of a rise) thats the entrance.
