finally replaced a seized electric window motor in the 80, only been like that for two years, and fitted my EGT gauge that has been gathering dust for 18 months

How are the egts looking Bill? Is your engine still standard? Have always wondered what they would be like on a standard truck

havent driven it, at full noise sitting on the drive i can't get it above 550

I'll be driving it like i stole it next week so i can set the alarm

Ok so, I really struggle in my drive to work to get over 700C, foot up in in second all the way to the red line takes it to 820. Around town it sits between 270 and 350, with the occasional jump to the low 6's accelerating away at the lights. I think I'll set the alarm to 750 as I was really thrashing it to get to 800

So that is stock standard? Steve murch who rebuilt my turbo said to tune my truck to keep max egt at 550 pre turbo. With it at 550 there no smoke what so ever (and even up around 600) it did seem pretty conservative. But it's going alright though so I think I will leave it there. Would be interesting to put a gauge on an old smokey NA diesel.

I have replaced the stock exhaust, but that's it. Mine certainly smokes when I boot it. 550 sounds pretty low.

I did this to an old (and very smokey) rd28. Gauge starts at 200c, and needle would only just read on a 0-100 thrash (so getting peaks about 300c) I was surprised how low they were. (same gauge now in my td27t and getting 700c peaks loaded up hills, so not a faulty gauge)

Makes sense though. More power = more heat and a efficient mixture that is not to rich will be the coolest when getting more power.
