Depends on if the wof issuer spots it missing or not. I've been failed a number of times for having mine removed, depends on who you get.
I've been told a couple of certifiers that you should have a LVC for the removal of a swaybar

bowl then into touch. i took them off my road going surf because i like going up the beach, fishing and duning. front and rear are gone, but, i also up-graded the springs (3 inch lift) and shockes as well. the best part was installing the rancho 9000's. wind them up to the hard setting on the tar seal and its like driving on rails. wind them right down to the soft setting and its a wollowy old goat.
my cruiser has ome leafs and shocks up grade as well with a 4 inch lift it rolls well in the corners while on the road. but i just dont drive to fast for the road conditions. and it has made a hugh differance off road exsecially in big ruts and cross axle conditions
just remember that if you do remove the sway bars the truck will handle differantly and drive it accordingly

Im in the leave it on camp.
Sure you might get slightly better articulation & maybe slightly more suspension travel.
But they do make your 4wd handle better on road. Some say they dont notice anything different with them off,but in an emergency situation like having to swerve at 100km im sure youd notice then.

Do you break the rear mounts all the time? or are you under the illusion that its still on and working but never realised it has no mounts?

With 35's you don't notice the sway bars on or off as they cause more sway than anything else...

I have previously broken 1 mount.
But before & after each off road trip i check them & everything else is looking ok.
But thanks for asking

I removed mine and didn't notice a difference on road.
Now i'm looking at setting one up on the rear end for road driving, will have to be removed off road though or have really long rods on the disconnects, lol.

Im only looking at putting one in as my rear end is really soft and very twisty.

Go leaf sprung all corners that way you don't have anything to complain about.

As for on or off here is a link to make some swaybar disconnects for the front, I am sure there are better design's out there this one means factory droop but wheel's will tuck into the guard. it is a compromise.

took mine off the other week. (86 SWB Pajero)

instantly noticed the difference on gravel surface - less bounce felt through the steering wheel.

On road I drive around corners like a nanna now though.

I disconnect the front for offroad , every inch helps with IFS

I took the rear bar out and didn't notice much difference on the road :D

Then I measured full extension of my shocks and checked full drop of the axle.

Full drop was 90mm Past full shock extension

Have put the rear bar back in to stop my shocks taking a hammering until I fit limit straps or longer shocks

thinking Rancho 9000 but still have to do more research.

But your shocks cant extend past there full drop, or do you mean where the wheel is at full drop.

Dont worry about it it wont be often that it fully drops out like that. its more the compreshion you have to save your shocks from anyway.

as you can see in the following pic my shocks are out so far that you can see gap past the shroud yet it will only happen when im going slowly through stuff articulating.

I didn't think it was a good idea to let your diff hang off the shock absorber :? The shock will be the limiting factor in downward suspension travel :?

I have extended bump stops to limit compression travel
I would love to take the sway bar back out agian

Yea I am meaning at full drop to, the compressed shock in my shock is no way near fully compressed cause of my huge bumpstops.

Just rip her out

Pulled both off the 80 Series which has a 100mm sus lift using the soft standard springs, but have adjustable Rancho RS9000x's which i have set pretty hard to stop some of the super massive roll on the road :D

When sway bars removed on my mates vx80(now owned by redevil)it was very interesting to drive on road to say the least, with 4" spring lift(soft coils)the back would start to steer given enough body roll.
Mint off road though, had pretty good artic for medium lenght shocks(springs were always tight in saddles)was a pretty good wagon all round,I would have brought one but cost to much for my budget..

Yah, mine was pretty interesting to drive in standard (swaybars on) form with the electric shocks set to normal. It was almost undrivable after the lift with the swaybars off, even with the shocks set to sport.

The new shocks have sorted that :D

Yep, removed the front of our 80 series 'cruiser, it only had one on the front, it helped heaps off road :D We have Tough Dog 45mm bore adjustables, so just wound them up to stiffest setting, no body roll at 100k's 8)
I was told not all 80's had sway bars?? I was also told that the wof guys can only inspect on what is there, and if it is there it must work, but not sure on this :? I have never been failed, but then again, my truck is certed, and I don't think they are too worried about what is there, and what isn't, they just quote the cert plate, and say it is moded, theres the plate, our ass is covered!!
Also removed the front bar off the Vitara we had, can't say I noticed a big difference in on road handling, I think it didn't corner too well, but I got used to it, apart from which, neither of these vehicles will handle as well as my bike anyway
No matter the problem, the answer is always give it more gas.......

I have made some swaybar disconnects for the front of my 80..from some farm linch pins and a couple of r clips...So i just pull the pins off road and put them back in for the drive home .. It has to be level to get them in and out though .. Ive got a locker in the rear so i didnt worry about that one

Took it off the 413, std springs = not so good on road, better off. With beefed up springs not much difference on road, still better offroad

It broke off on the LJ71, way better offroad, bordering on scary onroad, even with the Ranchos turned right up. Put it back on. Might make up some disconnects one day.

i took the front sway bar off my escudo at the weekend whilst doing the suspension lift, not been off road with it yet but it wont be long if i try to brake hard from 100k's again!!!!  i was on sh50 near hastings coming round a very slight bend and had to slow rapidly................
the rear end felt like it had just lost the wheels and was coming round to meet me.
i think a change in driving style is definately needed!!!! ive got rear air shocks fitted but with no air pressure in them cuz i havnt had time to pipe them up, i dont know if it will make any difference though. i will soon find out i guess, but i will keep a stock of underpants in my truck from now on i think !!
