Re: pathfinder/terrano
where did you source the upper (slimline) bumpstops?
Re: pathfinder/terrano
Looking at that image posted above what are people's experiences with this shortened center link/extended tie rods (2wd) mod on the road??
The arcs created by the upper and lower control arms look to have a much shorter radius than the new 2wd tie rod setup, this looks dangerous in the sense that the steering may be forced beyond driver expectation when the opposite side is bumped up/down??
I can imagine it's fine for off road and also creates a safer tie rod angle with regards to sideways impact forces and bending rods but on road it looks like it would send the truck totally if you hit a crest in the asphalt .

Re: pathfinder/terrano
The strongest solution that IMO is to use an outer tie rod from a D21 Navara 2wd as the inner in this setup.

Unlike the 4wd rod end, it is not shanked and actually 2mm larger in diameter. If the area of a circle is still Pi x Radius squared, and my maths is correct, then that equals 79 percent more beef.

This setup leaves the outer rod end as a fuse in the event of a severe hit, and even then it wouldnt bend enough to leave you stranded.
In terms of on road driveability, I had no problems whatsoever. Geometrically this setup is the same as any other IFS 4wd. It literally solves the problem of weak steering on the WD21 4x4 platform. The tie rods follow the same plane as the upper control arm so there is no bumpsteer.
I used this setup with a front spool and 33s and had zero issues, booting it up rocky ledges etc. Not just low traction mud bogging.

The next step for me is to experiment with inverted Y link steering, such as you would find on most any Jeep product, which would delete the idler arm. Combined with GM 1-ton tie rod ends, this would reduce the number of moving parts in the steering system to that of a solid axle vehicle.

Happens easier than you might think using generic tie rods. Either what Lax & Crash have done solves this or by using Sankei 555s or Moog Problem Solver inner tie rods (both those are thicker & hot forged so provide a more heavy duty steering. First time out with generic partmaster / super cheap ones = This:

And that was at 42nd Traverse so not exactly the toughest track in the country

Sourced my Moog Tie Rods from rockauto.com, tends to be what most the NPORA guys use (Nissan Pathfinder Forum + they have a 5% discount code for forum users) their cost is awesome & shipping not too horrible.
PS if your using your truck in the sand often, I'd recommend getting some form of rust protection done sooner rather than later as Nissans & sand aren't the best of friends.

Re: pathfinder/terrano
Awesome thanks for the advice guys, I'll have a yarn to an engineer about making up longer adjusters.
Also noticed its missing a body mount spacer and bolt...... Can I just buy 1 spacer(50 mm) and get a new bolt, or will I have to make something up out of steel? Or should I just pull the body lift out because of cert.....only running 31x10s

Sorry I'm out of the country, but if you PM me I should still have the dimensions on file. The machinist will need to find a M18x1.5 left thread tap for the inner joint connection.

Re: pathfinder/terrano
average cellphone pic.......... have had the front camber and castor shimmed and wheel aligned, also brought some second hand 32x11.5x15's achilles mud tyres, put them to the test today when someone we know managed to get their pajero stuck on a muddy local paper road, pulled him out backwards and had a play at the same time.

chucked the p/plates on too.
