Yes I know where you are coming from there, but really I don't know of anyone who does any 4x4ing with out maintenance or repairs at some stage.

But I always say look at the age or the Rovers! Let's see how many Pajeros etc are around on 30+ years time and still 4x4ing. My Rangie is a 1974 and had a hard life befoe i got it - 17 owners!!!

Have fun!!

John :P

:P i still have a soft spot for rovers.. shhh!

Sorry John....its not the original....the Landrover was a copy of the Willlys jeep, it goes back even further thru various companies back to ww1 and back...

Sorry ...but your wrong! the Willys wasn't an SUV. The Rangie Was, and possibly the Landy Station Wagon.

The ealrly landies were actually built on Willys Chassis.

get a real 4x4 if you can find one

i've owned both a landrover and a range rover and the g wagen would leave them in the bog

pity they are a little hard to find and are usually over $10,000 which is probably why not so many people use them for what they are designed for

not really much point as it still wont be as capable as another truck.....looked into that suspension lift but it aint worth it as you still have to buy the coils and then you have to do front diff drop brackets and a hole lot of other stuff to make it work and i dont have that kind of money.....if the zook doesnt sell for what i want for it il keep it and maybe save up for a low ratio transfer case gears then a calmini lift kit which is just bolt on but again its alot of money that i dont have.....

http://www.puresuzuki.com/rockcrawler1.htm

http://www.puresuzuki.com/3_lift_kit.htm

i would do the low ratio gears first and then the lift so i can got to 31" or 32" tyres and have the gearign and the travel.....but its still got IFS (invented for shoping)

if you were to sas it on big tyres with low gears it would leave ALOT of other trucks for dead. an sj with choped guards and 33s will go just about anywhere. look at trials trucks.

as for that lift kit.. i was wondering what exactly it had with it.

SAS would also cost the same as that lift kit from the states....so maybe i should just hilux diffs it....DODDZEE :!:  + a SAS'd vitara would be something different becuase alot of people have a vitara but not many have capable ones :P ..........that lift kit on trademe just comes with those so called "coustom arms" which are just made out of V6 vitara arms or grand vitaras and ghe wants like $800 for them  ....i guess someone will get conned into it and hel be a rich man   ......so looks like im saving for some hilux diffs aye DODDZEE!!!

bagh,
sas = solid axle sillyness.

there is nothing 2 lockers and a winch cant fix with IFS.

but in all honesty, good on you Mr O.

I'll be importing my calmini kit soon, so we will see how much a solid axle is eh :D

I bought my solid axle for $200

Then $100 for a pair of rangie radius arms,
$150 in steel for making mounts maybe,
Driveshaft, maybe $200

Then maybe $100 in bits to make a home made xlink?

Ive been thinking about making one, using a nissan GQ panhard bush as the swivel (the one with the really big bolt through it), so hopefully it wont break. It doesnt look too hard, you just cant make them and sell them because if dobbins engineering hear about it, they might sue you  )

Whan i get a chance im going to mock one up on the other nissan housing i have here. Will look at using somthing larger than a panhard bush on mine. I think the forces that an X-link bush needs to withstand would be larger than a panhard would produse as on the rear is it only a sideways load where the on the front will have a twisting force as the diff tries to rotate around the rear mounts.
