People rave on about the old war time Jeeps but in real life they were only the best because there was nothing else.
Here is a clip from a trip I ran in Jan 2000 in the Upper Grey.

The big problem is they are no better now . The Nelson Clubs trip down the sounds a couple of weeks ago had over 20 trucks and out of that there were 4 Jeeps. Out of all those trucks 3 broke down and they were all Jeeps.
I am only stating a fact of life ,not being nasty.

At least you only need to carry a bike wheel as a spare tyre for that thing. Maybe even a wagon wheel.

So what went west this time?
Bulletproof...... your earlier statement may well be quite valid, and hey, ive had issues with 4 of the 5 ive owned, but yet i stick with them, not because theyre bulletproof (excuse the pun) not because theyre faultless, but because... well... theyre a Jeep!!!!. A true Jeep-a-holic just resigns themselves to the inherant issues and just gets on with enjoying the experience. ("experience" = getting well used to fixing it) It would be a blind fool who proclaims a Jeep to be the "BEST" 4x4 ever... but then Ive yet to hear a Jeep owner say that. In fact, ive often found that non Jeep owners take considerable time to point out the Jeep frailties with smug glee..... in some kind of unfounded inferiority complex???
Its a sickness, it a disease..... its a Jeep thing.

Don't know if I have a fav. I'd like my TJ to be a Rubi and I also like the full-size Cherokee/Wagoneer with the V8, but I've not seen enough to know there isn't another one in the 60-odd years of manufacture I wouldn't like even better. I'm pretty happy with the TJ and while it's superb for what I do with it and I'm happy with it I'd swap the XJ for a full-size in a heartbeat.

There is a full size Cherokee not so far from me. I saw it one day and toyed with putting a note on the windscreen to see if it might be for sale. It turned up later at a welding class I'm doing being driven by someone else on the course. She says it will never be for sale, but I hope she brings it again so I can get a proper look at it now I know it's hers.
A Chief for $6k - I'd be pretty interested in that.

I like that a lot. I wonder if the missus would be able to tell is isn't a heat pump if I came home with it?
I haven't searched TM for one very often and there have not been any on the times that I have looked. Anyone want to buy a '96 XJ with no problems whatsoever so I "need" to buy myself another DD?
