Hi The best bet is get in a couple and drive them. They will not be off road all the time so if you can forgive the safari's on road driving then fine they are a pig of a truck right AL?

But they do go well off road, the cruiser is a good truck and simple you can go spring over axle and do a whole lot of things cheaply to make them go further.

Both ug cant believe I am typing this.. are good trucks offroad but the toyota's have been around for a long time and are indestructable, and lighter than the safari. Drive them and see.

have decided to buy a cruiser , any advice on year , motor and so on?

you have a 3k ish budget ? try for a 40 or 45 series with the 3b ? diesel or the 2f petrol. you may even get a v8 powered one for that..... if you look hard enough.

2f power plant is an awesum reliable donk

3b is an awsum reliable and dependable diesel (not a lot of poke but it will never die)

LOTS of parts around for them and all mostly interchangable with all other cruisers wich makes it easy.

and sooooo much good info around for playing with them...i know a few things even

go with what ever series you like the look of im guessing for that money you will be looking at a 40, 60 or 70 just dont go smaller than 3.4 for the motor, unless u dont mind spending lots of money on a new head (how would i know , im stupid and didnt listen, and got a 2.4)

will definately be going with deisel and ive already cracked a 2.4Turbo haed, a 3b sounds like a bit of me

wats the easiest/cheapest mod you can do to a cruiser of this sort

get one with a factory PTO winch on it and drive it at 15 years old you can have many years of 4x4ing pleasure and learning before you will need mods. i drove mine for 10 years without doing anything to it and am much better off now because of it....i think

or something like that yea. look around on trade me, few on there, 40's are more common if you dont mind the short wheel base awesum capable truck best trick with the leaf sprung cruisers, if the leaves are sagged out.... leave them,they work better off road and make the on road ride softer as well

i prefer the SWB any way will keep an eye on TM 4 one u rekon ill b able to pik one up 4 bout $3k

If your going for a 40 series watch out for the rust... yeah I know after 20-30 years they've all got rust but you'll find once you start thumping them around off road all the rusty body seams start to split and the bodys fall apart in front of your eyes

Get your old man to buy himself a new mig welder and learn how to use it

i already know how to mig weld pretty good , and already convinced the old man to buy top of the line BOC mig welder , so no need to worry bout that half of it

now that we've decided your getting a 40 series cruiser try and get a later one 1980-1984 that have the stronger transfercase

now who's that aimed at.....

Nothing wrong with 70 series....especially Prados

i spent over a year looking and 1000s of ks to have a look at lots of trucks.
be patient (SP) and the right one will pop up.

i think this will be my down fall ,im too Rip-Shit-and-Bust and just want to get on with it

Sadam is right the biggest thing to watch out for with a 40 series is rust, especially if you want a road leagel truck. WoFs are not easy these days

yea, front and rear chassis cross members hide rust and the roofs
