On a trip back last week, started getting a little bit of vibration in the steering (not a shake, just a vibration) which seemed like something was running rough.

Today, changed front and rear diff oil, greased front end, cleaned throttle body, checked engine mounts, transmission mount, checked front and rear u-joints. Checked all other bolts (including body mount).

Hopefully all this solves it. Otherwise, I'll have to revisit everything next weekend. Its more annoyance vibration than any thing else.

the closest thing i did to anything car related this weekend was going to see the BMW art cars at the auckland museum
this one is my favourite even if it was painted by an aussie

If your back yard was in CHCH, the only way her car would have been wheelin is if it had a body lift, snorkel, sus lift and a bloody good set of mudders, and lockers

Most back yards in CHCH are pretty wet today I would think

Good effort though Maybe shes practising the emergency escape for when she goes driving with Dad thats about the same flex as your zuk isn't it.............

check all your wheel weights mate, small vibes are usually just imbalance in the tyres..... just a thought

can't even think of a comment for that, one idea was the Chinese elephant that some idiot put a brush in its trunk (or was it a monkey?) on the news a couple of years ago

either way, going by the blood on the front, hit some animal quite hard

saturday - worked all day made to house lots of trusses pretty good day to work as it was shit outside all day.

sunday - bolted on injection unit on to motor with other bits and pieces got flywheel bolts torqued and clutch plate and pressure plate on, brought a clutch alinenment tool made quick work of it, hopefully will get motor back in the truck next weekend cross fingers that it goes,

Easy day Sat and did the waimak today with hilux-happy - The first time I have done much at the waimak, normally do the Ashley just for a play or head on longer trips

Went out through Long Gully and around to the start of Terawhiti Station via Tongue Point. Boy, do I need a snorkel, two trips around the South Coast and both times I find the deepest puddle of water. This time crossing Karori Stream - almost across, then down goes the front, up comes the water and it stopped dead with the front end half up the bank, and the back end filling up with water

Now I know why people take the carpet out. Even the roll of toilet paper couldn't soak up all the water, it did a pretty good job tho'

After 15 minutes of sitting in the sun and drying out the water from appropriate parts it fired up, firstly on 5, then quickly onto 6 and off we went again - I think I have learned my lesson now.

A great afternoon with 3 vehicles altogether.

Haha thats funny I was leading a CCVC trip round Terawhiti today , I'm going to run an ORE one in 3-4 weeks

Should have clarified, I had the tyres balanced and front end alignment done last weekend. That included rotation as well. I have to go to Whangarei tomorrow, so it will be a test again to see if it had made any difference.

So Jerry, if only I had poked my nose further up the stream I would have found you guys, some of those photos indicate you were in the same place as the last ORE trip, but it looks a lot muddier and wetter than the previous time

I am going to have to do some overtime, or get a job on Vivian St to get that snorkel sorted

If I'd known I would have invited you , on the trip we had a new flatdeck cruiser (twin difflocks.....poor old saddam would have been licking it or something) and a new troopy setup for camping as well as a new looking defender

Anyways you have 4 weeks to get one...as I'm running one in there 2nd September, we go rain hail snow.....

I had the same problem with my Safari. Was due to the tyres being out of shape. Had them balanced 3 times didn`t help. Put a set of my mates tyres and rims on and it was sweet again!

Went up Thompsons Track, the Te Aroha side. Had some extreme fun used a set of trekkas i'm going to buy they were awesome.

Took my vitara out to my brother inlaws this afternoon and put my new exhaust on and welded my sill bars on. We also tuned it so we are getting maximum performance out of it now. Bring on club champs.

Oh yeah, Took the mrs out for dinner Friday night(crazy farmer, not bad)fitted adjustable panard rods to VX Saturday morn andrealigned under carriage, spent Saturday night at the Game in a corporate box with endless free piss and food and didnt cost me a penny!! Sunday we headed out to a new play zone with some good potential and had no repairs to attend to after

Went on a CLROC trip into Ramsey Glacier up the headwaters of the Raikia. That's in the sotuh island for all you cousins up north. Great sunny day, easy trip in. Set camp up abouit 12ish and by the time we had finished it started snowing. Went out into the river for a play to head up to the Glacier for a looksee. Snow started coming in real hard only 50 mtrs visibility. Turned back at 3pm and the fun started. Many recoveries as rocks were all frozen and trucks slid onto big rocks they shouldn't have. The last km I had all lockers going just to gain some semblence of traction. If you didn't have lockers, you were on the end of a tow rope. By the morning we had 8" of snow on the ground. It was a good slippery trip out with the leaders loosing their way, but put back on track with the trusty old GPS worm. Excellent weekend.

Can I use this to justify buying new tyres (though the old ones have only done 40k kms - BFG Muds).

Drive up to Whangarei this morning (from Auckland) actually had less vibrations. So the problem might still be in the driveline yet. How much u-joints cost roughly. I'll change them one at a time and see if it makes any difference (starting from the rear diff to front). Better yet, get a slip yoke eliminator kit and new double cardan rear driveshaft
