I am always happy to lead trips for guys of all skill levels to different parts of the sth island. I think trips with varying skill and truck ability levels are good things with lots of learning potential. Might even join you saturday if the handbrake hasn't got anything organised for me.

:D awsome al, that would be great having someone to lead some trips to other locations. i alway like a change of scenery. as for doing a trip i am always interrested. always wanted to go to the otago gold field region. have the latest 4wd south book by mark wilson. it has alot of good trips that would suit alot of the members. i think it mite just be too expensive for some. but it could even be an end of year trip or something along those lines. i haven't mastered the waimak yet but. but atleast its good skill building. and never too far from home if things turn bad. it would be great to see you on saturday al. always keen to meet new people into 4wding. should be good on saturday where ever we end up going?

rangimotors wrote:That all sounds great AL but it also sounds a fear bit out of my league i like many others are pretty new to it all and working just as hard on gaining experiance as i am at building my truck up, the waimak is a great place for some of us novice guys, each time i go i still try something new that i haven't made it through before or haven't had the balls or no how to have a go. I value your idea's/ suggestions but some of us have a wee bit to go before we make it to that level and i must say its pretty exciting each week doing something a little harder or challenging, I hope to make it up to the higher skill level but its not gona happen over night and i dont think there's anything wrong with practicing and learning each week, cheers

And that is exactly how 4wding knowledge should be gained. You are on the path that most of us who have been doing this for years have already travelled. A cheque book truck will not give you the valuable experience you gain by learning the limits of each level of build that your rig goes through. Your experience grows with your trucks capabilities.

I do have an issue with guys who blow their trumpets with little or no experience. Other newbies sometimes listen to these cocks, and go on trips with them believing there are in very capable hands. Blind leading the blind is not a good scene for anybody, and if/when trouble occurs, we have the entire population on our backs. Media love these stories and we have enough bad press and "hoons" to deal with as it is. We all know land is being locked up faster than anything at the moment, and more bad press just reinforces the resolve of those who wish to lock us out.
I personally am not a good teacher for newbies anymore,(too damn stubborn, and no empathy) but Albundy most definitly (spelling?) is. Instead of coming on here and telling me how good you think you are, and then trying to convince others of the same, I strongly suggest that you get Albundy to organise another one of his awesome teaching days, go on it, and listen to what he, and the others have to say :!:
Apologies to those who think I have come on too strong, but I won't sit back and let guys portray to everyone that they think they know it all with out proven track records.

And as an aside, and I have said this before, there are too many facets and types of 4wding now available for any body too call themselves "hardcore". There is the winch challange crowd, the trials crowd, the back country travellers, The mud hoons, Water babies, and My favorite Rock crawling, and while I may be in upper levels of this in NZ, on the world scale, I am so green that is embarassing to even mention it.

RANT OVER!

Carry on and have a good time.

I think I know what you are ranting on and on about.
Isn't it annoy when someone with little exprience blows everyone else away! It's not fair!! It should happen!!!
It's not the same by any chance but. Spare a thought for the F! guys. Imagine how they felt when Hamiton came alone. :D :D :D
Some people are just naturals.

Don't be a dick mate!
That thread served it's purpose.
Hey, I don't no how to repower my truck, so flame me for it!!!

I thought the people that did it would, but I was wrong, wasn't i. They were meant to be the pros so they got the job. And YEP! i paid SHITLOADS for it. I can afford it!!
Go on about it for ever? LOL Spare a thought for the good guy that works there. It's his world that's been rocked. He's the one that's getting out of the place. And why do you think that is? You go and figure...

Grow up!

You can come to the training day as long as it is at your place again, that was fun seeing all those shit scared faces and then their confidience grow.
