The hill the 4wd attempted was a well used track? the sign on the way states "all vehicles to remain on formed roads or existing four wheel drive tracks". cheers Tim

It costs about $4000 per callout for a hellicopter on average the longer range and trickier ones go way up in cost. The transfering patients between hospitals brings the average cost down to $4000.

Remember they were asking a DOC representitive to call a Hellicpopter, he had to identify where they were and what they were doing and the situation they were in. Hell if it was me I would half way be thinking I should go check the person out myself (with only a first aid kit and no medical background) before calling in a hellicopter. You never know what people think is funny now days.

Yes they did something stupid, Yes the exchange was probibly not as straight forward as asking, and yes it could have been done better, from what I read I suspect the others left to get cell reception before the DOC guy had finished getting all the information.

Put it this way you are doing your own thing at home and some random comes in saying you need to give me blankets, what do you do? Sure 200m up the road there was a power line accident and they need to keep someone warm but you never get all the information in the first go.

The right thing was done in this case and that is good, they were in the wrong place had an accident and should be told that also I think if the DOC ranger had done nothing I think there would be cause for concern also a radio is not able to contact the 111 service it has to be a cellphone or physical line so he may not have been able to raise a call if someone with a phone line and cell reception was not available.

Edit: for obvious spelling
