i had complete hiace van motor using 2lt sump oil pickup fly wheel clutch [as van was auto] engine mounts radiator cap housing and running gear dropped straight in had to mess around with air intake hose and exhaust to manifold but an easy swap over done new cam belt and waterpump while hanging on crane if you can go from mass flywheel to solid one as mine flew to pieces a month down the track, i think 2lte has more electrics oh you will lose rev counter as no plug on injector pump .
im sure ln130 are 2lt not 2lte

Na my 1991 LN130 is a 2lte, (at least the vinn plate and the intake pipe say that).

What do you mean by losing the rev counter?? is there another way to hook it up?

personally i would say go the 3.8 v6 commie. i have one in my 84 surf and i absolutely love it!! it has so much torque. i run mine on 33's and it is quite good on gas because it uses no effort geting them going with all that power and at 100 at lower revs with big tyres. close to the same as my 2lt in my other 84 surf for price wise to run.

An old employer ran commodore V6 cars for their runabouts. They averaged 16 litres per 100km.
I tried resetting the counter and driving them nicely when it was my turn. Couldn't do better than 15 litres per 100km around town.



I'd second the 3L.

series 4 rx7 bodies are at least 500kgs lighter than a vn or vp commode...
mine still went thru 12 litres per 100km.

So as for a 3.8 V6 into my surf, no. I would like the power but Its going to be my daily driver and I do alot of commuting to get to work.
Itd be fine if it was a toy for the weekend or a trailered vehicle but I want to go for a deisel.

yeah thats why il stay diesel... petrol companies saying $2 a litre for 91 withing 6 months... so diesel will be what 91 costs now...

FOREAL! Damn, George bush shouldve just nuked the middle east and kept the fuel prices the same as they were before 911. Then I could've afforded to run a LS1 in my surf...GRRRR...

I'd drive a hilux with a 3L in it first,then see what you think about them.Slowest motor I have ever had!Uses a bit of diesil aswell because you have to keep the go pedal pinned to get it to go anywhere,I drove a couple of them just to make sure it was'nt just mine,but no all the same.I turboed mine just so I felt like drivin the thing.I can't wait untill a Lexus is fitted in mine.(Lighter than the factory diesils and uses less gas that a 3.8 commy i've been told)Or if you want to stick with a diesil defintly go with a 5L 3 litre motor.We had one fitted to our work van after the 3L shat itself,it goes about as good as my turbo 2.8.

has the engine swap been done yet? cause for the money you are going to fork out for a "GOOD" diesel you could fit the 3.8 beast, and a second hand LPG set up. Plus it means you can pull the large Gas tank and fit a smallerone under for just in case and have more room for mods underneath? Just my 2 cents, looked at the same for my BJ73 cruiser when I thought the motor had sh1t itself. worked out $500 cheaper to convert to LPG GM than a low milage 3b including Cert and if you have suspension mods you need to cert nowdays to get WOF anyway.

nup havent done it yet, its still just collecting cobwebs. I was going to just throw a 2l into it and leave it at that....cept to do a block change i need to track down someone with a block and tackle and a shed.
