hosehustler wrote:Reality is you can get a lexus onversion done certified and completed by a local firm for $9,000 and it is a superb top workmanship job from start to finish, looked at doing one in my fathers lux, the motor is the cheap part at about $1500, you still need a flywheel, bellhousing, clutch, fuel pump, radiator, fans, and a mddified or aftermarket computer to run it, then certify it.
All up to do a lexus conversion even completing the work myself it wou;d still cost arond $4500-$6000
That isn't best bang for buck.
A 2jz six pack is more powerful later design engine and cheaper to do by far.
Back on topic tho this chap is looking at keeping his costs well and truly down, not everyone has huge amounts of money to waste on toys, so the old 5mge supra conversion is by far the best bang for buck, if you find a cheap manual car you can complete the conversion yourslf certified for around $1500, less if you are lucky enough to get one for a song.
The 4.1 falcon conversion will probably be a similar cost if not more, thirstier, and not EFI.

good info there, cost isnt the main thing though, i just want to be able to as much as possible myself and wiring gives me the shits lol, so the non-efi option looks good for now.

certainly 9k for a drive in- drive out lexus conversion would be nice, and not out of reach financially,(with help from the bank lol) its just ive spent the last year getting debt free for the first time in years, so i would rather not go that option straight away.

Drive mine and I reckon you'll want to go for a 5M, they really are a simple conversion,
The motor drops straight onto your existing engine mounts, there is a factory bell housing to mate it to your gearbox and wiring is as simple as.
Heck you can copy mine, or Suprasurf has it all documented on the net.
The dearest part of doing a supra/ 5M swap mill be finding a manual bell housing, unless you can find a manual donor car.

It would be cool to see a Coon motor fitted into a surf, but the supra is still going to be cheaper, especially at the pump once its running.

Do what you want to do, but....... if you put the modded carby in (the one that can be swaped to efi later) you can do the basic conversion, get it going, be happy and then when it's all good change to efi, throw in the coons loom and computer (easy ha?)

To me, it sounds like a good way to trebble the value of a Toyota, throw a FORD part in it!!!!

!!!!!FORD!!!!!

If you happen to come across another set of panelvan springs... My Surf could do with a bit more height in the back to level it out.
