What sort of insurance if any will the NZFWDA be getting to protect those that will be signing these authority cards?

For Farks sakes Muppets, The card just proves you are a member of a 4x4 club It's got nothing to do with your vehicle or ability to drive it.

How can so many people read 20 pages of this and still not understand it???????

your not wrong there mate theres a lot of people jumping in without reading the thread and the answers are usually repeated on every page so you dont have to go wading through every single post over 20 pages

the law changes are about extreme lifts not moderate lifts

if you've got an extreme lift instead of a moderate lift on your truck then your probably better off playing it safe and trailoring your truck than trying to drive it on the road so the law changes wont make any difference to ya, if your going to do motorcross you'll need a trailor for that anyway coz motorcross bikes cant be ridden on the road

seems the way it has to be now :(
haha thatl look good a single bike on a full size trailor

however might build a thunder truck styled Hilux, keep it lower than standard on 37s with more flex than a bodybuilder

its a shame that government likes to ruin everyones fun..

how extreme is an extreme lift??
moderate lift 50mm? extreme anything over that?
not including body lifts? does tyre size come into that equation too?

i dont want to join a club because

1: its costs money
2: i dont have time for club nonsence (have been in speedway for a few years to know that being associated with clubs is a pain in the ass)
3: location of clubs to my place

looks like ill have to drive my "illegal"(50mm lift, body lift,33s) truck over to chch to get a cert...hope it doesnt tip over on the way

Some chch clubs do make allowances for people who live on the westcoast or away from chch....but they are mostly "Combined Clubs " tho.

Yeah, the Kiwi4x4 membership is gonna be HUGE!!!!

They will be getting my membership if this all hits the fan like is being threatened.

My current club wants the best part of $100 a year out of me, so thats potentially an extra $100 a year onto the compulsory yearly fee's (WOF,REG, Insurance etc) for owning a 4x4 vehicle set up for off road use.

Joining Kiwi4x4 for $50 is definitely the cheapest and easiest way of fulfilling the club membership requirements.

Catch is, that you still have to kiss ass to someone in order to be nominated. If they don't like you and you don't get nominated for membership ....................

And you also have to survive a entire year as a member, and continue to be a member for the rest of the time you want to drive a lifted off road truck..............

Interestingly enough though, being an interweb based club, the club captain will probably never meet you face to face, so when you apply for your weetbix licence so you can pop your off the shelf 4" lift under your VX Cruiser, it'l be plain sailing!!!!

Also, if you play your cards right, if you join Kiwi4x4 at the right time in your WOF cycle, you could stick your 4" lift under your truck 6mnths early. Straight away after its passed its WOF, slap the lift in, you won't get pulled up on it untill your next WOF, by which time your year as a clun member will be up and ya can go get the cert as requested by the WOF officer

Yes, I know I have a bad attitude, you don't need to PM me to tell me so

Who said anything about travelling that far for a club meeting???
I work on Banks Peninsula during the week and haven't been to a meeting in ChCh for a few years....I keep updated via the club website and emails.

I don't know how affected this section of the population is but people who don't belong to a 4wd club or read this forum would have no idea this is going on.

Since when does the Government have to communicate? Did we get a choice when they hiked the ACC levies on motor users because of Saturday sports injures and bad management?

I'm not blind bloke and three hours drive is nothing if you're motivated!! He has stated that he is not keen on being in a club.
I was stating that if he WERE then Reefton to ChCh is pretty damn close compared with the original advice being Reefton to Dunedin!!!

i would rather drive 3hrs into the bush with a rifle than over to chch tbh...my experiences of club meetings are all of sitting in a stuffy room listening to old codgers moaning about other people..

sure being in a club may be of benefit, but not at a cost of driving to chch for a meeting..thats just my opinion..

time for a coast club then??

had a look at a nice old(86/87) dc hilux today that was up on a hoist, not sure what was under the bonnet, either a v6/8...had a body lift with what looked like 30mm diameter blocks, rear end was leaf and coil, beam front, custom tube bumpers...i remember seeing it before but didnt look too hard...im sure its certed cos i remember it getting a wof a while ago where i was working

i was amazed at the weak looking blocks, where as mine are about 67mm dia blocks...

Twodiffs wrote:IMO $400 for a cert is a necessary evil, I want my truck to be safe and i'd prefer all oncoming vehicles approaching me at 100kph on the road be safe as well. I got lucky...the previous owner certed mine but having to repay another 4hundy or similar to have further mods certed is bs and thats maybe why there are uncerted and/or unsafe trucks on the road.

If further mods were added to the cert at $50 a time then i'd get my dropboxes qualified, and more likely everyone would keep their mods upto date.

So what you are saying is....you're driving around in a vehicle with modifications that haven't been certified (drop boxes) but because you think it's only worth $50 to get any further mods certified since you've owned the truck you haven't had them certed :?:
and.....because you have a certification plate you can do these further mods....still get a WOF... and drive around on the road in a vehicle that technically is NOT certified..... :?
be warned if you crash it on the road.....the cops utilise the LVV certifiers for post crash inspections and they'll have a ball  , not to mention your insurance is now invalid :o
Personally i'd rather drive a vehicle that has no REG, no WOF and no cert on the road ....at least i'd be driving a proper NON-roadworhty vehicle, but what many including yourself (if those drop boxes are on your vehicle) are doing is just plain dishonest, perhaps I read your post wrong....hope so :) .

Hosehustler...do you specifically go prowling for any post of mine so you can get your knickers in a knot or are you just ignorant in general? How many pages did you have to go back to find this so you may get your fix.

Unlike some mods whether it be professional or backyard I do have a producer statement from the dropbox supplier, I also did approach the issuer of the low vol cert about them. With everything on my truck in order including wof and rego I really hope I don't come across you on the road in your unwarranted, unregistered vehicle.

Now with trying to address the subject and not the person...bog off and annoy someone else!

I think the point HH is making, if the drop boxes aren't certified, then it's not legal (you gave the impression they aren't certed). If it's not legal, who deems the truck safe?
Do the wof issuers pass the vehicle knowing it should be certed?

I've run drop boxes on 3 Safari's, all from Superior Engineering, and have no doubts that they are safe, but also know that means SFA in the big scheme of things if it's not certed.

Not a personal attack, as I agree with it being BS having to pay for a full cert for this type of thing, but an illegal truck is an illegal truck. There probably plenty of people out there who don't think they should cert their vehicles because they think they are safe, or parts are made by a reputable company.

If wof or cert issuers let people away with it, then the LTSA needs to spend more time looking at whether they should be issuing them.

Two Diffs, with uncerted mods your vehicle is as illegal on the road as mine would be , mine is on a trailer when on the road where it belongs, I don't drive it on the road
No I'm not ignorant, I can be a tad annoying however I apologise if I upset you, just engaging in good honest debate for the benefit of all, don't take things personal I was making a point of what you had to say about being safe...and having uncertified mods , I thought it was a valid point, not a personal attack at you at all :?:
Once again don't be offended Jamie, no offence intended.

I think you're wise about posting some pics of days gone by Pete, they have "on topic relevance" those pics are reason alone why we all get out and enjoy our hobby, a timely reminder as to why this debate is a hot subject, we all want to enjoy such places in a vehicle that can actually ....and preferably..(legally) do it.
Nice one
