it still looks dodgy. I have a towball on my 70, and when I'm off road its removed and the tow hook is used. theres still lots of people who put it on the ball first. very dodgy Image

Yep I wouldn't have towed it like that, a briefing was given and mention was made about using rated hooks, If I'd seen it I would have done somethng about it but I can't be everywere 100% of the time. All the recoveries that I saw/supervised were ok.

you should get little cameras mounted to the front and rear of truks looking down at thier hooks and a warning system connected to your truck that lets you know when they are performing an illegal recovery

We could call it 'Jerry Vision' 8)

Exacery. What he said.
Had my Disco stuck in the same hole and Blackbetty (who's cut down Suzuki weighs two-thirds of five-eights of #### all) managed to pull me out of that hole.
You could have hooked the strop to the door handle and it would have been safe.

so many choices eh?

you could get a 40 series cruiser or maybe a 70 series cruiser then theres still a cruiser prado option..... you'll have to decise whether you want a petrol or diesel cruiser then theres the tyre options to put on your cruiser

ask away and you'll get plenty of good unbiased advice

Totally unbiased advice for Steve?

Get yourself a Nissan Patrol / Safari

Why?
They are solid, virtually unbreakable, have coil springs and when the going gets really tough it is usually a SWB Patrol or Safari that gets the job done. Many of them have PTO winches and / or rear locker fitted out of the factory saving that expense later on.

So why haven't I got one?
Seriously considered buying one, but I didn't want a long wheel base one as these are just too large and look too much like a school bus.
The SWB ones just don't have the room I need. The rear wheel arches protrude too much making the back seat in a SWB a two seater only. With three kids that was no good. And then it is two door only. I don't like the huge centre console either. The footwells in the front are quite small for the size of the vehicle. It is really only the interior space and layout that stopped me buying a Safari. But if it is just two of you then the SWB is the way to go.

  Why you little.... better watch out for the school bus next trip... they have a habit of running over little whimpy Landrovers

But seriously, yes, if you don't need a long wheel base definitely go with a SWB. The whale goes bloody well and I love it, especially considering it's size. We seem to be able to get pretty much everywhere others do with absolutely no suspension mods and 33's. Apart from not wanting to throw it into big holes where I know that I'll get thrown into the side of the bank and damage panels as Cloggy seems to enjoy doing  :

And besides, there are just WAY too many Cruisers around Wgtn at the moment
