Re: 5M Hilux - then 7M - Now 3RZ-FE
got a few bits done over the weekend...
Dash is done, ran the engine for half and hour to make sure radiator was working properly, now that the temp guage is hooked up. Had a few issues getting air outta the system, gets trapped next to the thermostat when its closed, so I tapped a 1/8 bsp thread into the top of the thermostat housing and put a bung in there so I can bleed it, did something similar in the looped heater hose as well. Start filling the rad with the thermostat bung out, wait till water pisses out the stick the bung in, keep filling till it pisses out the heater hose bleeder then that's it. worked a treat, runs at a steady 190deg f (90deg c).revd it to what felt like 4000 or so for 10 mins, temp went to 210 then back down to 190 within a minute or so of letting off, the rad works really well. hot to touch on the top, and stone cold at the bottom, the fans move a lot of air, especially with the shroud.

modified the TG powersteer pump bracket to fit the 3rz. This pump is 1600psi and 4 gals / min as opposed to 1200psi and 1 gal/min for the factory one, should make the hydro assist work well
had to bore the factory pulley to fit as well, drilled partially into the shaft and added a grub screw and loctited the pulley on, dont want that coming off in the middle of nowhere.

Hydro assist?, whaddya need that for ??
coz now I have these!!!

fawk 4dees are big!

Re: Now 3RZ-FE and on 40's:)
hooking up the Trailgear high output powersteer kit ain't a bolt on setup for a RH drive 3rz
The high pressure hose that comes in the kit is miles too short because the box is on the rail next to the pump on a LH drive truck, so instead of not using it and paying for a Hydraulic one, I'm gonna use a hardline from my old surf, weld the fitting that comes with the TG kit to it, and use the kit flexi line
Heres the kit fitting and the hardline, soon to become one
This will run along the crossmember like it did from factory, and still leave room for the winch

welded

After I've sorted out where I need to trim the inner guards for the tires, I'll mount the reservoir and cooler/fan setup, then tap the IFS steering box for hydro assist, mount the ram and we'll have steering

I won't be making to RR09 boys. But you will have Chopper the Rock God there to keep an eye on you

Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
Re: Now 3RZ-FE and on 40's:)
Don't worry Jafa. I'll be coming to RockRash even though i only have a Cruiser
If nothing else i'll be keen to see this beasty in action. At least we wont have to waste time fixing broken trucks this time

***Got the balls, just ain't got the bucks***
Re: Now 3RZ-FE and on 40's:)
You might even see the crusier attempt some nasties this time as well, seeing at how it is so unbreakable

Re: Now 3RZ-FE and on 40's:)
Don't be trying to make out i don't get the Cruiser into the rough stuff. I know its not a Rock beast but a least it has a go, sure beats sitting on its ass in the garage
and i'm pretty sure your one broke just driving up the road Rok. But go on keep giving me shit about it i know it makes you feel better.................

Re: Now 3RZ-FE and on 40's:)
Back on topic kids! Take ya bickering elsewhere
gawd, sound just like my old man when I was 2
Check these babies out!
Billet steel, one piece 6 stud HiSteer arms for us RH drivers. These are designed to fit the Trail-Gear 6 Shooter knuckles, which are ambidextrous, but no-one makes right hand drive arms for them, until now!
These arms have the kingpin as part of the arm itself, they are CNC machined from a block of P20 steel, not cast, or bent.

these combined with hydro assist should give me the strongest Hilux steering setup avaliable

Re: Now 3RZ-FE and on 40's:)
gonna have to do some trimming
this is at 18" of travel

body mount has to go as well, I'm going to have less lock turning left coz the steering box is in the way, might see if I can get a LH drive one and mount it on the inside of the rail, then shorten the draglink

I know, put on some smaller tyres

Don't forget though, that front body mount doesn't really do squat. It is only holding the front guard and the bonnet catch.
Make up a frame off the chasiss rails to hold bonnet down, and reshape your inner guard to fit. Won't be quite as easy as it sounds, but can be done

Re: "Jafa's Jalopy"...3RZ-FE and on 40's:)
I fixed the body mount problem.........cut it off, I have no body to bolt to it there anymore anyways
I'll cobble up some new inner guards outta plastic or rubber sheet or something. I still want to keep the rad support panel and headlight buckets

So what sort of money would you be paying for the six shooter setup? I presume its a Trailgear thing?
***Got the balls, just ain't got the bucks***
Re: "Jafa's Jalopy"...3RZ-FE and on 40's:)
The arms are $1250 a pair and the knuckles are $640 a pair. We make the arms and the knuckles are Trail-Gear.
