surely the weight distribution of the truck has something to do with it, if one wheel has gone up as far as it can gothat extra bit of down travel cant hurt, also keeps the truck more level, I set my lux up with about 15deg of shackle angle in the back as this also swallows the bumps abit better, I also have the front shocks sloping down towards the front much the same as a mx bike works well for me.
By the way if coils were any good crumpy would have had em

Hi Richard, over the years on 4WD trips I have witnessed three cam belt breakages, these have broken prematurely and seems to be caused by grit, mud, water and or sticks getting between the belts and pulleys. Two have been 3L Toyota's and one a 2.5 Mitzi . Have you had any trouble ? and how have you sealed your 5L cam belt cover.

Good question Kevin, I have also seen a Disco Diesel let go recently.
Another question for you Richard, when you were doing the coil front end why didn't you go for Range rover springs, shocks, and control arms on the toyota housing?

Tim , Richard answered the Rangie question early on in the thread (not sure what page), to do with Nissan (did I say that word) coil diameter being bigger and the chassis end of the control arms, Pins verse Eyes. I'm sure Richard will get back on this, Janet must have him out shopping

.
And another

what are two PETROL HEAD

CART SPRING die harts doing asking these

's

.
NEVER SAY NEVER,

Are you running wheelspacers on the back now Richard? The axle seems to be in alot further than the flange of the rim? Your big tyres rubbing were they?

Hi Fitzy
Big shopping list today.
About the cam belts I have never had this trouble nor have I seen it . The belts wern't replaced at the port workshop were they ?
The seal on the timing belt cover is a fairly good fit and it makes me wonder if someone didnt fit it properly because if you dont take the radiator out to change a belt it is hard to see at the bottom and you can easily knock it.
I have stuffed the front crankshaft oil seal big time in the mother bog up the Glenroy. The bog had 3-4 ft of water in it and the pressure forced grit up the drain vent at the bottom of the camcover. It threw 3 litres of oil out from Murchison to Nelson.
About Tims question now. A range rover was my first choice but because I have 70 series Box section diff it wouldn't fit so went for the Nissan instead. A range rover would work on the prado diff you have i'm sure because they are round.
Have a good weekend
Richard

You are dead right .I have fitted 25mm ones to the front as well and the steering lock is miles better. Flag has a wide surf diff in the shed and said I could have it but because of the coil setup and my modified shock mounts thought it was easier to fit spacers.
I have to ring flag tonite about the perserverance trip. Might see you on sunday.
Cheers Richard

Thats the Warn 9500ti. I have had it 2 years now and am very pleased. It has the water proof seals and when winding in with no load you have to stop 1 metre from the winch because the speed does the rest.

Yes Flag bought 35 simexs a while back. He didn't use them last weekend.
Janet got a ride across Stony river with Flag and this is how it looked from inside his truck. It is not an easy crossing because it is hard to see the right line between the boulders
It is the boulders in a metre of water that is the problem

Hi Shane, I did get some of those 35'' Silverstones but have to do a couplle more mods to the truck before i fit them. Was still running the old semi bald 32'' simexes on this trip.Wasnt much mud, just a few gnarly boulders to clamber over. From what i understand we were the first vehicles thru this track for over 20 years.
