Good to see the Land Rover in there Richard. Gotto love the way he kept that (big pumpkin of a) salisbury off the rut What tyres was he running? I could see you had the BFGs on.

Even though the Easter trip is back at Westport I thought I will still show some videos of Reefton area.

That bit of slab hut creek track has always been a favorite of mine. Never managed to get to drive it when it is dry, and it can be a real biyatch when there is a minor river running down it

If you join this trip up with green door hut, it is a great way to spend a morning.

Rokhound mentioned Saw pit in the Wet and he is right. A totally different ball game

Hey Richard, loving the videos, there is no where like the West Coast

Ive just spend the morning cleaning mud out of my radiator and alternator. have you done any mods to protect these?
I'm also very interested in your modified fuel pump setup. I'm looking at putting a manual pump on my 1KZ and will need a boost compensator for the turbo. Have you modified the 5L pump or are you using a 2LT pump? does the 5L use the same pump as a 2.8? (I'm told this will bolt to the 1KZ)

Hi Chris
No I haven't done anything to protect the radiator.I have removed the air con radiator so so that means I can hose the radiator quite easily. My truck is quite high at the front so apart from bogs full of weed I don't normally have too much trouble.
Go through alternator bearings like they are going out of fashion. No where else to put it as the super charger fills all the room.
About the fuel pump . All fuel pumps tops are interchangeable on the 2L ,3L and 5L so the compensator off a 2Lt will bolt straight on any of these.

Private access only . No I didn't have the simex's on and I dont think it would have made any difference because it is bottomless. I was running 35x12.5 BFGs which probably had more floatation.

Awesome Weekend in Westport.
Stayed with Flag and went on a trip lead by Mike Holmes of the Blenheim and some of the South Islands top winch challenge trucks. Mark and Steve came as well
Flags truck hasn't got a WOF so we share the driving of my hilux

Opened up a private Track near Seddonville by clearing the windfall and then did Tailings the hard way by going up the Steep bank. After that we went to Bennetts for a play in the Mud. Quite dry but everyone still got stuck.

Janet didnt come on the trip so have no video. A bit of a pity as there would have been awesome footage

Have to wash the truck now

i'm green with envy,my lux is in bits as broke it on private trip last weekend. what sort of vechiles were the winch trucks,& what kind of suspension set ups?hows the new pandarod set up going on your front diff?

All different setups but none of them came close to the hilux. Everyone says the only reason I get through is because Im first so purposely got in the middle to prove a point.

The big advantage they have is winches that go as quick as you can drive. Bruce was going to bring the mighty hilux but couldn't make it.

The suspension is working real good and can't think how to improve it at this time. But still have an open mind because nothing can't be improved .

After the weekend I have a new goal. That is to drive the steep bank at tailings , drove from the little Totara all the way up the hill and a third of the way up the steep bank and then Mike Holmes attached the winch . None of the others could even drive the hill section but Mike got close in the Nissan .Attached to the winch was still driving most of the time so need a bit more practice . Easy to drive the track other the way now from tailings.

Another Reefton trip is the Bulletproof Chasm Track.

Last weekend 3 groups went in . the Suzuki Club fromm ChCh ,The Marlborough Club and a private trip of John Randle ,Glen and Mike tall.

Mike Tall from "4 wheel drive upgrades" In his V8 Cruiser -Lux became the 1st person ever to drive out of the Chasm. I didn't go because am doing the track at Xmas .

Here is a video showing the Grey on Als birthday trip in July 2008 at 1700mm compared with Oct 2007 at 2250mm and rapidly rising. Next morning was just under 4 metres deep.
When it looks like this ,the deep channel on the othe side is between 4-5 deep and unless you know the river it is not a good idea to cross

I was at Seddonville on weekend also,some guy at the Seddonville hotel was asking after you(uncle maybe?)he saw you cross the bridge or something..

Hope you can get the video. Would love to see it . I ran into John ,Glen and Mike on the tailings track and had a long chat with John last night . He said it look impressive when Mike drove out of chasm .

Yes that was an uncle and we did a private track under the bluffs.

Good bit of video. Was that off to the left on the way to the Charming Cr walk way ? Not enough footage to identify it but if is the track I'm thinking there should be a deep little creek behind the truck and a hill in front. It has a very greasy incline like that.

Flag rang last night and said he saw you on monday. There is a new track that only Flag and Mark are working on just before the walk way and he said someone had been in as far as the river on the weekend, so assumed it was you guys. That is the only track at seddonville I haven't done.

On sat morning we did a track on left side going into charming C(mowerbones side)drive short distance then drop in creek wear steel beam/concrete slab are in water drive up stream then out again,trees down across the track every wear,had up to 4 chain saw's going at once,only driving 3-400 meters then out with the saws again.took 4 hrs to clear approx 2.2km.we come to a make shift log bridge that had slumped to one side so couldnt go any further.well put some pics up tomorro

Sounds like loop track that flag, Steve and myself cut two years ago. Ist on left past Mt Glasgow Rd . Bridge gone ,drive down a steep bank to the right and acroo a small creek and into a boggy section and then climb back onto the old forestry rd. After some distance turn right into forestry and drive between th pine trees. Should see an old rusty sluice pipe. You then come to a deep creek we filled with trees and then up the hill where you join another forestry rd and out to the Charming rd again.

Tim Evans went in there about 18 months ago and had a breakdown and didn't get out until the early hours of the morning.

Tonight I will dig out some footage.

Sounds like you guys did a good job. We will have to get together sometime

Here is the loop track on the left past Moa Bones when we opened it in Sept 2006.

Your video looks like the section at the end which is as greasy as hell so you may have done it in reverse.

That track is further along than the clip I put on. Is that the one where you drop down on the right side of old bridge and drive under it and then back up other side and eventually you come to the bridge you showed but I thought there was a track cut on the left side through the creek.
If it is the one I think ,it would lead back to the top of Moa bones but has never been completed as the area was sensitive to DOC.
A number of years ago Nigel Harris , Andi Delis and myself spent xmas at Seddonville . Nigel stepped on one of the rotten bridge planks which see sawed in the air and he ended up in the creek.A pity Janet never filmed it.

This will be the final video clip for a while unless something dramtic happens as my son has taken his computor business away and I have lost the 20 gigs of fast upload I had to play with. That will be good news for all the ones who I piss off in this thread.
