Don't get me wrong. I am not picking on any person and I'm not going to produce any video as it leaves me wide open.

ORE is not a club. It is only a public forum where anything can be discussed . If I want to run a trip I simply advertise it on the forum and are not accountable to anyone.

As an example I ran a trip a couple of weeks ago with Jafa ,Uboat and Andrew. I didn't have to answer any questions as to where we were going , did we have safety items, were we doing anything that might bring the forum into disrepute, Were we drinking and driving ?

Because it was my trip I made the rules.

Because every one has different standards ,what happens on others peoples trips could be totally different from what I view as correct.

Because ORE is not a club and has no rules, that is why there are problems with the public view of it and the standards set.

A Question I would like answered is.

Why do so few of the ORE members belong to" KIWI 4x4" if they want to do things properly ?
Cheers Richard

I hate to inflame this further (well ok, maybe I don't) but Richard (IMHO) you are talking out of a hole in your arse. In the 4-5 years I have been an active follower of ORE, I have also participated in many trips with different clubs, up to 10 or so at a guess. I can say that the behavour on the ORE trips has been not only the safest, the most enjoyable, unpretentous, and most welcoming. They have been far better behaved than many of the club trips I have been on.

Maybe the clubs around your way contolled by the tea totalling Exclusive Breverin and they have nothing better to do than stir shit. If that is the case you can have it and I'm not interested in listening to small minded doomsayers

The negative public view only seems to be a regional Christchurch and Nelson thing as the rest of the country dosent seem to have any image problems as people have already posted? Wellington has probably been the most active group for the past couple of years and we only seem to get positive feedback from our trips we organise through the forum

Why do we need rules to enjoy our sport, When can common sense be our rule of thumb. In all my recreational pursuits there are common sense things I do ,catch and release, place your shots carefully so on and so on but I dont need someone lookin over my shoulder to tell me to do it.

Thats why i used to like organising trips through ORE, we could have a beer at lunch, i could take my dog, and even my Rifle if i wanted.

We could all get back on line and share our photo's and recount the trip over the next couple of weeks, and share with the rest of NZ the wonderfull places we want and the fun we had.

For a while there, i was scared to post any pic's on the site incase they ended up used in someones anti 4x4 news paper article.

Thats all stopped thank F##k!!!!!!!

I don't like clubs. Manly because i feel like i am being scruitinised by the older more "mature " members who frown upon my having fun.

Worse club i have ever been part of would have to be the Nelson club. I didn't fit in with them one little bit. I was living in Westport and did most of my Wheeling with the Buller Club, but joined the Nelson club for more opertunites to do trips. I decided to head up to do the trip to the Kahurangi light house with them. I finished my 12 hour shift up at the mine, got home and jumped in the truck and we (me and me best mate who just happened to have 4 legs and a tail) drove till 2am in the morning to get to the meeting place ready for the next day. Next morning when everyone arrived i was told i couldn't go because i had 35's on my truck, my tow hooks were anchored by 8.8 bolts not 12.9's, and i had a dog with me.

I thought about it for a while and decided to let them go ahead a bit and followed them along down the beach at a distance. Wnakers.

Anyways, clubs suck for stupid crap like that. Even the Buller club band dog's after someone complained that it was cruel for me to be taking my dog on trips with it getting thrown around and scared. You don't see them banning screaming kids and moaning wive's do ya????

The way i see it, is that ORE wouldn't exist if there wasn't a need for it. The fact that we have as many members as we have do is testiment to that fact that alot of people don't fit the Club mould.

Its seems there is a good many people that enjoy a hard days wheeling out in the middle of no where with no B/S attached.

There are also those that are so rogue that even ORE doesn't them, and i believe they could be part of our problem.

its called tall poppy syndrome

really
EVERYONE has done stupid shit .. some people move on ... some people hold of it to use as a weapon

reality is death threats are illegal and punishable by prison

doing soemthing stupid dosent give someone else the right to do something illegal its a double standard and pritty much shows the mentality of the people involed

its ok for us to act illegal threaten lives comit lible and make defanity statement , but you do somethign stupid andd off boy your in for it buddy

probably the most pathethic crook of shit ive ever herd

and as above ... everyone ive meet from ore sofar has been a fine example of a good law abiding person with good morals

yup... some of the best events I have been on were with the waikato crowd. for many reasons, what was different?? nothing, those guys DB and the like, are the most responsible and reliable fellers I have meet in a helluva long march.
The runs etc, were as well policed and administered as any a formal club could wish for.

Rogues? Yes, DB and all clubs have em, as well as on this forum. I dont want to play with them either!!!

NOBODY had more than A beer at lunch, did stupid things or went underprepared. Thanks guys for letting me go on yr trips. There is ONE that we have to have another crack at, though. as soon as Benny is ready.....

I personally don't care a stuff what people do , but the issue here is the negative public feeling towards ORE.

You have answered it nicely.

If a member of the public sees a group of 4 wheelers with OFFROAD EXPRESS stickers on their trucks sitting around having a beer at lunch time with rifles in their trucks as well .

90% of the public would disapprove and give a bad report.

My 2cents worth and final comment on the matter

NOT with THAT lot, a fair few of us carry rifle as a matter of course on certain trips. do we have em where people can see them? not on yer life!! NOBODY can tell that we do. not even the guys we were in company with. ANYBODY having a cannon in full view in his truck is a dickhead, on the runs I have been on, that NEVER happened.

did THAT make us unique? I dont think so. the occasional beer at lunch? THAT has bad press cos of the drink driving campaign, the rough tough etc image of 4wd-ers. also, nobody got pissed, left dead cans/bottles around, we took, and do take, all our rubbish out with us, as kiwi4x4 members or the informal trips run as mates.

I have a certain sympathy with Db et al, about clubs, yet here I am as pres of one, WHY??? because it is the safest way of protecting myself from the government if it goes tits up on a run. I have some good friends, of like mind, access to great driving and its a way of paying back all those who went before to secure that access, and make various parks like Pureora available to all. Were it not for clubs and there affiliation do you REALLY think that there would be as many places available as there are today?

All those that have been around 4wd clubs pre ORE will know that the arse holes, track wreckers, groups that leave rubbish, ones that leave gates open and take pot shots at cockys live stock and generally give ALL 4X4 clubs and groups a bad name are always some one else's CLUB or GROUP and where doing It and getting blamed long before ORE was even thought of, and the Club or group that you and your mates are with are absolute SAINTS and practice TREAD LIGHTLY and obey every ROAD RULE, YEAH RIGHT. When ORE got started every other Club was let off the hook, they could all blame the ORE group and aspire to be the best and safest clubs around  , wrong. I have been on many club trips with different clubs and groups and tread lightly, bullshit, I defy any one doing a grade 4 trip and above to tread lightly, I have been involved where you couldn't do more damage with a D8 CAT,but on going back eighteen months later we couldn't find any sign of the so called damage we made, what damage ?. DB, well said, I to have my wee dog that loves to be with me where ever I go and do, she may get the odd bump while out 4wding but this is far better than being stuck in a town section bored to bits, but the goody to shoes don't see it that way, I carry a BANG STICK on most trips and on one such trip when I happened to trip up a young spiker the ones that never do anything wrong didn't mind taking there tasty morsels home when It was divided up at the end of the trip. As for a drink at lunch time or the end of the track, in the right company why not :) , I do.

I know were getting pretty off topic with the sticker thing in this thread but now that were talking about dogs there shouldnt be any reason dogs cant be taken along on 4x4 trips the same as taking your dog on any other outing, so long as your dog is tethered to the vehicle or secured inside and not causing anyone a problem and there is concent from the property owner and its not annoying anyone then why the fark shouldnt it be personal descression to bring it along?

Re: OFFROADEXPRESS STICKERS ?

Post by Nick555 »

Im pretty new to the 4wd scene but judging from what ive seen and heard im glad i came across ORE 1st and didnt try joining these clubs.

Before i bought my truck i had a a pretty fast WRX (wasnt a typical bogan wrx its was num 8 of 555 of the colin Mcrae series) which i didnt go cruising town it because it was worth to much but it was low on tein racing suspension with good gripping low profile tires and a racing exhaust. I had it for doing track days with mates and racing at the track but just because it fit the boyracer image from the outside u get put in that catagory and treated like crap.

It sounds like a simalar sorta thing that if u dont fit into what these people see as what a 4wder should be then they will cause you trouble and it is sad to see that people would be like that rather than just having fun and realising that not all people act like idiots that all groups/clubs have at least one off (the guy who gets real drunk and hits on bosses wife at the xmas party)

I think its important to be able to say "well they can think what ever they want we know we arnt doing anything wrong and our trips are a lot more fun without them" which by the sound of it they are.

sorry for the wall of text but thats my 2cents

Also about dogs we went playing in the mud on the weekend with a couple of hilux utes and they brought their dogs along and it was fine the dogs got to cool off in the river rather than being stuck inside, fun was had by all and there was never anychance of anyone (including animals) getting hurt.

Cheers
