cheers

I think the best idea is to come and do the Stadia track which is by far the easier of them and make the call after that ,if muzilla(wayne) or i dont think your truck can get through without a lot of grief and damage we;ll let you know .Alot depends on the weather leading up to it as both Waitawheta and Thompsons can be real hard work after a bit of rain ..

Basically yeah, thats the idea, there will almost be two trips happening.

The idea is, that so we don't tread on Steve's and Wayne and co's toe's, we meet up at stadia and go in as far as everyone is keen, untill the track gets tricky then split up into maybe three groups.

The tough truck boy's who want to go hard and blaze the trail, i.e Monstr, Mudzilla, Wopass and others, we let them go ahead and get stuck into it

The other guys that are keen, but are gonna be slower, like Gimmemud, NZhunter, DJ, and who ever. I will probably stick with these guy's as i like cruizing along :D

Then there will be those who maybe park up and walk.

As for the rest of Easter, its hard to say. I would Love to go right over Thompsons, but would need some serious organisation to get the tow vehicles and trailers sorted.

Otherwise i might just do the stadia part and go chill at my folks batch for the rest of it :P

Theres no reason why we cant do Thompsons both ways Start at the Te Aroha side through and back ,if we made it an early start even taking it fairly easy we should be out before dark ,that way trailers etc can be left at Te Aroha and the less capable trucks could still come and turn around when they have had enough ,the Nutters could carry on and on the way back sort out anyone who might of had a problem ,Just a thought..

I have never done thommos, but it seems that what DB said earlier may have some merit.

the well set up boys start early and hit the track running, go hard to the other side, turn around and come back.

the next group start behind and go till they have had enough or until the 1st group pick them up on the way back.

then as others have suggested, they can assist with the recovery of any broken trucks etc etc etc

just a thought

This is starting to sound like a plan....

I'll drag my Jalopy up on thursday, we'll do Stadia on friday, Thompsons two ways on Saturday and Waitewheta on Sunday and roll home on Monday.... sweet! Is this what we're looking at?, I'll have to hook up a day off work soon, so i need to be certain this is what were aiming for

At this stage the plan for me is Stadia on the Friday and Thompsons both ways on Sat .I would rather not do a run on the Sunday but would be sorting out the truck cleaning raidiators ,Alt etc come home in the afternoon to beat the holiday traffic as the traffic on Monday will be crapp,Theres nothing to stop you guys doing Waitawhita on Sun ,just be aware if its wet you may not be out till Monday sometime..Steve

Can i throw a spanner into the works????

How about we do Stadia Friday, stay in there over night perhaps, then on saturday drive out and head just down the road to Maratoto and drive up to the top and set up camp there for saturday night.

On Sunday we get really serious and do the WIRES LOOP :D

Monday we go home, and for those of us who don't have to do the motorway mission, we could go do Thommo's.

The Manukau Club with some from Kaiatia 4WD club will be in Marototo, easy part of Stadia and Thompsons during the the Saturday and Sunday - not sure which order - probably Marototo and Thompsons on the Saturday and then Stadia and off to Kariotahi on Easter Sunday

Holy crap, its gonna be a traffic jam in there
I dont care what order and when we do whatever, I just want to do as much as possible in the time allocated
Personally I like the sound of Steve's plan, leaves the option of a Sunday trip if we are keen/able/nutty enough

Maratoto is likely to be closed by Easter ... Peter V ? ... are you on line Peter ? I'd stick with plan "A",,, Go to Stadia on Friday (i'm not :( ),,See who's still keen/running and do Thompsons both ways on Saturday,, and if a couple or three or four trucks are still up for it , do Waitaphita on Sunday ?? Jafa will want to get as much Mileage out of his trip as possable, So , I will be keen on Thomo's (Sat) and Waitaphita (Sun) but only Waitphita if a couple other winch trucks are lineing up (Monstr,Woppass,DB and Sattilite(fully trained winch wench haha),Jafa)??

Hi Guys ,I have done some checking and There are currently 3 clubs booked into Maratoto over that weekend ,some of them are camping up at the river ,It will be that busy i personally will be giving it a wide berth ,The same is happening at Stadia ,What do you guys want to do ,Still do Stadia or change it and do Thompsons both ways on Friday and the survivors can do Waitawheta on Saturday ,At least that way we could hit Thompsons fairly early and be over the top and on the way down before all the noddys on ATs turn up ,get to Katikati by lunch and will only have to contend with a few horse and bike riders on the way back (and im bigger with bull bars) :) What do you guys reckon..Steve

Pete's still out busy blinging up the guts ready for sunday, but he said to ask how much of Stadia/Nevesville are we allowed to drive???

Definately steer well clear of Maratoto by the sounds of it, but keen to do Thomos both ways

What he was wondering was that, seeing how there is so much country up in stadia that we used to be able to drive, we could easily spend a couple of days in there.

If we got in early and beat the rush, and headed off into the harder stuff, we would be miles ahead of anyone else up there, and be able to cover some serious ground in two days!!!!

Then hit Thomo's on Sunday???

We're realy keen having a look at stadia :D

Yea and another reason for not going into Maratoto is the track is starting to cut up a bit but at this stage is still a good shiney run ,a bit more traffic and the shinnys will loose that also ,at least we have the option of doing tracks not suitable for shinnys so rather than cause any crap i would rather just go where they cant ..steve

The top end of stadia wasnt touched by the digger so is still winch challenge material, most of the side tracks are blocked by either slips or fallen logs or badly overgrown but in saying that there is plenty to keep you busy for a day or so ,there are a couple of tracks i wont do as the last time we did both Wayne(mudzilla) and i destroyed a couple of tyres each ,the cost of Stadia is $30 per truck .Im quite happy do do either option ,ill leave it up to what the majority want ..Steve

went for a quick trip into maratoto satday night, was pretty good  i wouldnt take my shiney up there tho

from the bottom bridge to the top shed by the river took me 35min up and 30 down with a possum stop

but if theres gonna be swarms of guys in there then yea steer clear of the traffic

im keen to do what ever is decided

Hi,
From the known traffic on the various tracks as per the above posts it sounds like perhaps should do Thompsons on Friday, then on Saturday do Waitawheta and then those that want to do a third day do Stadia on Sunday.
I haven't done any before so are keen to do any, will only be doing Fri and Sat, other family stuff to do on Sunday.
I guess it would it be best to come over on Thurs night to get early start on Friday.

Okay people we now have a confirmed run ,Becaues of the amount of traffic that will be in Stadia and Maratoto on the Fri/Sat i will be staying away from them (will leave Stadia etc till another time) We will be leaving Waynes place (mudzilla) at around 8 am on the Fri and doing Thompsons both ways anyone wishing to come alopng can either meet us there or at the start of Thompsons by 8-30am ,on Sat we will be doing Waitawheta we will sort out times for that after we get out of Thompsons but a tentative start time would be around 8-30am ,any survivors could do stadia on Sun if they wished .if your coming either post here or pm either myself or Mudzilla

*Please Note* this is NOT a shiney trip you will need a Good working winch and a good selection of recovery gear and good mud tyres.

ps maybe because of all the bs on another thread we should also say no lpg diesels as they will blow up
