You wont get it in...too tight.
The 2.5 inch pipe I used ended up being 3 inch Outside diameter so fitted the 3 bolt flange. And ended up quashed up.
The 3 inch bends are actually bigger than 3 inch and almost 3.5 inch outside diameter as the size is for the inner diameter when it comes to steam pipe.
Does that make sense?
Here are some close ups of the pipe before weld up.

Update:
After two off road runs with the new 3 inch system and dump pipe....Wow is all I can say.
In low range it really flys, give it the welly and it just gets up and goes. Where as before it would just die.
Like a new truck.
On road its alot better but the auto doesn't let it sit in its sweet spot, manual boxes would see some great improvements here.
But its the off road improvements I was after.
Now intercooler.

Is the 90 deg bend a 2.5 inch ID or 3 inch ID steam pipe bend? The main pipe is a 2.5 inch ID steam pipe correct?

What is the thickness of the steel? might be able to just get some steel pipe in that size. Of course getting short offcuts might be a little hard to do .

Got to put together some bits for a my dump pipe and then give it to a proper welder to "glue together".

My new system so far (3" from dump back) is okay, increased spin up on the turbo and EGT's are down a little, but that could be just because of the less restrictive muffler rather then the larger diameter pipe. Sounds a little hollow at idle but good at speed. The drone I was worried about disappears with throttle and the tyre noise covers it anyway. Cant wait to put the dump on.

Getting injectors and glow plugs done today so should be a little better with that too.

The bend is a light weight steam pipe 2.5 inch dia.
Only a few $. From Steel and Tube. In Penrose.
Will look for P/N later.
You can have a section of 2.5 inch pipe....
Its OD is 3....

Ginzu8 What vehicle is the 1KZTE in? You can use mine if you like.
I am in Auckland. Its from a KZJ78 1994 Prado.
They are different between the Square shape, new shape Prado's.
And also the Surf one is different again.
Only thing it would be useful is a template of the mating face.
But a new gasket from Toyota will give you the same pattern.
I could scan the flange 1:1.

Hasnt arrive yet Seems penrose is further then I thought from birkenhead. Glad I paid by credit card cause if the courier lost it I can cancel the charge with the bank (but only if I cant get another one for nothing of course as I've already paid for it and the courier).

The LJ's came out with the 2L and 2LTE which is a 2.4 engine.
I think you will find the turbo arrangement different to the 1KZTE.
I don't even know if they use the same turbo.

So my dump pipe will be of no use to you.

Start a new thread looking for dump pipe for a 2LTE ?

Had a look at this web site (dont buy from them tooooooo expensive). The 2lt and the 1kz te (90 series prado) dumps look the same http://www.eng-tek.com.au/product_info. ... cts_id=240 so maybe they share a common turbo.

I'm going to make mine. just got to lay onder the beast for a while and day dream up a design. Or just copy the ones in that website. If I split the steam pipe bend in half and then insert some wedges of steel (or just crush it into an oval maybe) I will almost be there...

I think the photo on the web site is misleading as its the same one for all the toyota's .

I have to admit I thought the same. Maybe they all run the same turbo? Perhaps buying from them at that price is not a good idea ($500+ is a bit much for a small bit of pipe with a couple of flanges). The phrase 'rip off' comes to mind.

Hell, maybe someone in NZ should start making them...

the 1kz-te uses the CT-12B. the 2.4L diesel turbo uses CT20 turbo.

Hi last night i was on trademe found some after market stainless steel performance dump pipes I hit them up about the possibility of making heaps for the surf and prado turbos, the other ones they have are selling for around $200 which i thought was fairly cheap does anyone think they would buy one if they developed some? i mentioned theyd probly sell a few as no one seems to make them over here, they are after some factory down pipes to work off does anyone have a surf and a prado dump pipe theyre not using anymore?

i have one but i am lending it out soon to a member on here.

I maybe be keen on one for a prado. Would they bolt up to the factory exhaust or require a modified one? Do you know what there products are like? I'm sure there will be a few keen...

they are sold by driven performance not sure where they are made ill ask, they can prob be made the same length flanges etc just 3 inch

Be careful using thin walled pipe for a dump pipe, as they will crack.
And stainless doesnt like getting wet (rapidly cooled when playing in water), it will crack. Plenty of comments on the net.
Your dump pipe ideally needs to be thick walled. Thats why I went steel....

Stainless are o.k for town cars...

The newer prado's are easy to do, but the older ones are tight as it did a "goose neck" to get it out over the chassis rail.
You would need to do one on a truck and then mock it up on a jig for mass production.

I still want one. Waiting for a turbo flange at the moment so I can at least make a start. Of course if I could just buy one and be done with the whole mod thing ... Nah more fun this way.

oh well i might just tryn make my own was worth a try. if anyone would like the stainless idea get hold of the guys at drivenperformance.co.nz they seem quite keen to get a few going and may even do some thick steel versions just need some manifolds to copy think theyre in auckland so maybe someone up there could use there truck as guinea pig?

stainless is for show cars only imo, the amount of times people have asked me to fix cracked headers off their ricers, go heavy or at least medium wall pipe in mild steel
