Nah only Aucklanders have them to keep their posh ponsonby wagons from getting too cold.

Tested the 4 plugs. 3 have no continuity at all and one has about .382ohms (which seems about right - perhaps a little high).

So I am guessing they are all buggered and potentially have been for a while apart from 1 which I guess is on its way too.

what are these heat pumps? ingarages?

thats what the dam B.B.Q is for, way better than a gas heater, cause ya get a mean feed too.

What you really need is a heat pump and a fire in the garage, then your talking.

Plugs changed out. The one I thought was okay was just about stuffed when I compared it to the new ones (resistance etc).

$185 for 4 plugs (I guess if you shop on Sunday you have no choice), same brand as before.
What a prick of a job though. Hands too big for the gaps and the last plug is under a bracket for the intercooler so is a real beeartch to get in and out.

Acid test will be tomorrow morning I guess when I crank it in the cold. Hope this fixed it or the grazed knuckles and verbal abuse the truck (and the Japanese builders) copped will have been for nothing.

I was thinking about moving this on but with all the new bits and the work it has had done I'd be stupid to let it go (unless I got the right offer of course).

Cranked over and started sweet (even in the sub zero mornings too).

So after finding that my steering rack was stuffed last WoF, I had it replaced with a "good" second hand one. Unfortunately this good one was buggered by this WoF. Seems it may have been packed with something to give the impression it was in good condition. End result is that although its buggered it was rebuildable and now I have a refurbished/rebuilt rack in the car. Got Wheel alignment today and its driving nice and straight. The only other thing picked up during the Wof was one of my rear tyres had a gouge in it down to the belts so time for a couple of new (second hand, but near new) Nangkang mudstars for the back. The old ones were almost past it anyway and wouldn't make another 6 months, but I would've liked to have gotten them a little down the track instead of a huge bill in one go.

So the vehicle is all go again and I have decided that now is the time to sell it (and all its spare parts) and buy myself a nice clean and tidy two door sports car with a large boot (2003-2006 Holden V8 ute ).

Wanting $15,500 for this wagon with all its bits (list of most bits on other thread - I'll link it later). Some bits haven't even been fitted yet (still in their packets - yes I'm a little lazy ).

I'm more than happy for anyone who wants to know anything about it to contact me (or the mechanic - Alistair at Summit 4wd -for a chat about the mechanicals etc). Might be a little negotiable on price ( I can keep some of the bits to sell off separately - winch gear, roof racks, etc).

PM me for details. Might even be interested in a swap for a nice ute (I'll pay a little extra if for the right ute too).

Shit happens, stuff breaks and wears out, so you have to replace/repair it - such is life in a vehicular world I guess.

Make it 2500 beer tokens now. Just threw some near new tyres on the front too.

The wander in the steering has been sorted. It wasn't wandering, rather the rack was tight so it was sticking and not allowing the steering to 'wiggle around' to compensate for the road surface.

The steering rack was assembled pretty tight and has taken a few Kms to settle down. All good now and ready for sale.

Interesting. I had a bike once with tight steering head bearings and it was like a snake in thick oil weaving around.
Filed away for future reference.

Got a quote to get the bonnet (and small panel under windscreen) and guards paint matched, resprayed and then clear coated.

$500 to sort the clear coat peeling away like all Toyotas of that era seem to do.

Going to leave it as is and the new owner can sort it. Might lower the price a little (couple of hundy) to compensate for the hassle. Might!

Wagon now sold. Hope the new owner has fun with it.

Already had plenty of fun in it. Picked it up Saturday arvo, went for a little run up the river. Got it dirty. Spent all of Sunday stripping interior, cleaning, installing speakers, stereo, amp. Put it all back together. Speedo stopped working. Bugger. It's sitting here looking far too shiny. No more plans for it at the moment

Put the boost gauge in today, went for a quick drive, seems to peak at around 10 psi. Tap will be next. Speedo fixed, wiring to sensor was stuffed underneath.

Surprised about only 10 psi! My older shaped Prado, the KZJ-71 runs 13 to 14 PSI from memory. Been a while since I had the very accurate and borrowed gauge in it.

There is no tap etc, but it does have a ported cyl head, mostly on the exhaust side. Maybe this raises things, though I thought that 12 was about standard.

Good to hear you sorted the speedo and got the boost gauge in (I never got roundtoit ). Be interesting to see how it livens up with 11-12psi when you install the boost tee.

I've only been cruising around town and max I have seen yet is 10.4 psi. Will get the tap on in the next couple of weeks and put it up to 12.

my 97 kzn185 manual is standard(freeflowing muffler) is approx 12.5psi peak boost.

I did wonder if the waste gate was creeping open early. The boost tee will sort that.

Should I have the gauge reading 0.0 at idle?

Boost tap in today. Went for a test run and it was freeboosting on the lowest setting. Played around with it for far too long and couldn't get it to work properly. Have it on backwards now and its back to 10psi.

I think I remember reading somewhere there is a check ball or something in the tee valve you have to remove for low boost applications, but I could be wrong.

Took the ball and spring out, made it free boost again. While I was installing the tee, I removed the intercooler and blew the crap out of it. A lot of it. Temps have dropped significantly. Water temp from 88 to 83 and exhaust temp from 350 ish to around 280.

Unsure what to do with the tee next. It seems to be getting to peak boost faster and holding 10 psi better than it was. Just can't get higher boost out of it.

Found the trucks twin today.
