10k

Might be worth making sure that checker plate isn't just hiding something bad.

Not quite..

Re: Wanted: Tidy 40 Series Cruiser
Id agree with the chequer plate hiding rust. They rust really bad round the sills an the rear of the tub where the panel braces are spot welded to the outer panels will probably have rust

You could also find that the rust has been cut out from underneth the alloy and there will holes and the checker plate just covers over top, used to be the cool thing to once apon a time and there were heaps of cruisers with checker plate on them, but Imo i think it looks horrible and ruins the look of a 40.

Re: Wanted: Tidy 40 Series Cruiser
kinda sounds like he's bought it
Wuld be cool if it was kinda two tone.. with the bottom half all aluminum plate
I think its a nice looking truck.
Wonder if that aluminum is glued down. Could drill out the rivets and have a look easy enough. Rust kill or remove anything thats under there.

Re: Wanted: Tidy 40 Series Cruiser
Apparently it's gone straight from the panel beaters where it got a few rust issues sorted to the WOF station where it's got a new warrent this month.
Don't worry theres no way I was gonna pay 10k for it.
It has a cage, small block Chev on LPG and 4 speed, power steering, new WOF, LVVC.
The only thing I really plan on doing to it is to assess the rust situation, and if that's all good then maybe a rear spring flip and disc brakes on the front.
Wish me luck !

Maybe a spring over on just the rear end, give it that awesome 70s drag racer rake.

Re: Wanted: Tidy 40 Series Cruiser
Turning the rear springs around to gain a couple inches more wheelbase. Driveshaft needs to be lengthened a bit and new shock mounts on the crossmember. Cut a bit of metal out of the wheel well.
Seems like easy way to get a bit more length..

Re: Wanted: Tidy 40 Series Cruiser
It would be better to go with 60 or 70 series springs, as their centre pins are actually in the centre not offset like the standard 40 springs.
I looked at turning the springs round on my 40 for better aproach an departure angles, but after some more research I found alot of people on IH8mud found their springs sagged an bent cos the springs werent designed to have the anchor pin on the long side of the spring
On 2nd thought just coil it, do it once do it right

Re: Wanted: Tidy 40 Series Cruiser
Fakey is rite its really a waste of time turning the springs around because the locating pin isnt in the centre and it creates more problems than its worth and doesnt work properly.

Re: Wanted: Tidy 40 Series Cruiser
why not just take the springs out, have the hole re-drilled further back and put them back in the right way round.
Easy and no bent stuff.

Re: Wanted: Tidy 40 Series Cruiser
That was one thing people were trying, Redrilling the main leaf an turning the rest of the pack. Not too sure how that worked out, but Id imagine having an extra hole in what are prob already old tired springs will create a weak point an eventually crack
