Yep, having the back cut off is an advantage for crawling etc, but I do tend to agree with you about the weight distribution thing, and when we run "Rockrash: events, we stay in the bush. You can't sleep in a shortened truck. Having the fullsizde bed has never stopped me or held me up before (but that rear bar does take a fair old hiding).

Fitzy, I'm too scared to put it on a weigh bridge as I may have to get an HT to drive it then . I am sure it could have been built a hell of lot lighter, but it also have involved a hell of a lot more cost. And as this one will going through cert at some stage, it is to soime degree a cross over rig (well sort of )

Hey man. Don't know if it will work yet but I am thinking about putting a pull out tray under my deck so I can extend it to fit a camp stretcher on without having the overhang there all the time. Will either use a bivvy bag or do something trick with the canopy to cover my toes when it's in use. Going to have the spare as far back as I can to make up for some of the missing weight but its already really messed up in that dept so meh. Best of both worlds.

Yep, I have seen something simialr done with a 40 series cruiser. They had a canopy made that then wrapped around the rear doors (when they were open) and it worked really well.
I have another issue with the fuel tank as well. I have alreday had to reshape it to allow the rear diff housing to articulate, and if you look at the build pics you can see it goes all the way to the back.

have you taken the truck for a blat down the road to see how the steering and suspension geometery has worked out on this one?

Yeah aint that the truth Marty. I wasn't even the one who got it stuck in that hole. (the culprit is lurking in that pic ).

There is a lot of tuning required on the suspension yet, but it does drive in a straight line without trying ti biff you out the windows.
The rear springs are way to soft and this makes the whole truck torque over when applying any sort of power (passengers front corner heads for the sky) and this makes it a real handful to drive at the mo. I will go and have a chat with my suspension supplier and see if we either make some progressive coils, or try some other shit out. It will also need sway bars front and rear before going for cert, still playing with ideas for these though.

Looks like it might go a few places Grant. Good work alround. I know what you mean about torquing down the arse and lifting the front. As you know, I think it's hard to keep your soft supple flex for offroad, and stop this onroad, especially with your power. Your swaybars should settle it alot, try them first maybe (aswell as your front spring locks). I've been meaning to look at a couple of clip in coils for onroad, and when carrying load, you know all those spare Toyota parts Liking this truck alot, looks mean

Yes finally sorted my log on issues .
Trucks looking great Rok. Bet ya face was sore from grinning all day.
I found the same thing when I first drove my truck. I had alot of body roll an it would squat down RR an pick up the LF. Looks pretty cool but not so great for drivability. I fixed mine by moving both rear springs out an lowering the diff mounts 50mm cos I didn't want to run sway bars

Look what I found lurking under a big pile of work shite:



Replaced the starter motor (the one that was in it has has been used for maybe 5 days) as the one in there had frozen solid in the bearings and armature. Then kicked it into life for the first time in 18 mths or so and gave it a bit of a power wash.



Might have to seal up all the openings and let off a spider and rodent bomb in it as the rats have been eating all the neighbour's nuts (from the tree) on the front seats and inside is a spider haven.

Then it will be time to fab up a new fuel tank, build a new diffs using nitro gear and selectable lockers and sorting a decent electric fan system (thinking mondeo or EA falcon etc). I think from memory that the AC pump seized when we were last out as well, might also have to have a look at that.
Then I might even give it some use.......Yeah right!
