So if competitors are helping to clear and test tracks, then I assume all competitors will be allowed to walk all stages before racing? To help level the playing field.

I thought this was sorted out on page 3

From a competitors point of view:
A track with some tyre marks up it is better than one without any tyre marks, especially for the first couple of trucks.
It is generally accepted that driving/walking a track before hand gives you preconceived notions of what you will do and leads to f#%k ups. A lot of competitors actually consider walking the tracks a disadvantage.

From an organisers point of view:
Walking the tracks just adds time to the day that they usually don't have.
If competitors didn't help set tracks most, if not all winch challenges wouldn't happen.

If you want to see the tracks before hand help set them. Everyone was invited to help track set for this event.

Disclaimer: I'm not involved in organising this winch challenge but I will be marshalling and have been up there track clearing. There are some cool tracks.

well another 6 tracks marked up. Only about 3 left which we'll do tomorrow.

To those interested in marshalling, we've got training going on up at the TECT park tomorrow. We will be meeting at the visitors centre at 9am. It should only take a couple of hours at the most and then we'll be marking up the rest of the tracks and pit area/car parking.

Event is on next weekend - awesome!

Cheers

Driving the stages before a comp in the configuration that they will be run is a advantage.

If you know before hand that you can drive a certain bog or hillclimb its is a advantage.

Fair enough that compeditors that give up time to organise stages get to drive the tracks, BUT......

The event organisers should be doing a final pegging of the stages with no assistance from competing drivers or navis, no one competing should know exactly where a stage is going to run.

The fact that we as competiors pay nearly three hundred bucks to enter this comp, means that no one should get a unfair advantage.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I'm not going to enter into a debate but we consider we have made it as fair as possible whilst still being able to run the event. At times we have only had 2-3 guys slogging it out clearing tracks. We opened it up to all competitors to give everyone the opportunity to help us out. Today we had 3 people who marked the 6 tracks in completely miserable conditions. 2 were organisers and 1 was a marshal. However 'pegging' the track is simply a matter of walking around the already cleared tracks and putting up bunting tape and markings - not track setting.

As a final word from me on the subject I would say that every time I have gone up there, the tracks have changed significantly due to weather. What was once hard and driveable is now soft or a bog has appeared! I would suggest that with a storm forecast this week there will once again be a few surprises for all next weekend including us. Once a few trucks run over the tracks, they will be unrecognisable. I would say that anyone who thinks they have a plan for a track will chuck that out as soon as the right pedal is mashed to the floor.

Loooking forward to catching up with everyone on Friday and getting into some racing!!

Cheers

I have yet to go to an event where some one did not drive "out side the course"

Walking or driving the stage first would make this virtually imposable.

I understand that our sport is small and competitors may be required to help, all I am suggesting is that things are as even as possible. Competitors who consider it a disadvantage to walk a stage, are welcome not to walk the stage. easy.

When it is said that every one was invited, is this forum an official form of communication? I hadn't been on this site for a month and only looked on here when I became concerned that I had heard nothing about the event (turns out that was my fault). But if "all competitors were invited" to help set tracks, where was my email?

I hope this is not misunderstood as being disrespectful to the hard work that has gone in organising this event. That is not my intention.

To start with, I have no idea what you mean.

The only reason that we hold this event is because of the racing guys in the club. If we had no competitors within the club then I doubt we would run the event. If you think that we are gonna spend the last month of weekends building tracks and then turn around and change them all, just so a couple guys can be fooled. Not a chance. If i was paid for the job and there was a benefit to me other than a pat on the back, I might make more of an effort.

I know you don't wanna be disrespectful, but get real!

We are all volunteers, trying to make this a fun event.

You can think of me taking my annual leave so you can have some fun in the mud.

I hope this puts an end to this discussion.

Understand what you are saying but we're not going to have time for competitors to walk the tracks.

Jungle, I never asked you to change the tracks. Once again, thanks for the time you have put in.

Dan. That's a shame, but I understand how time is oh so short at these events.

Thanks guys.

Its pretty rubbish. You get the odd bit of coverage but generally it is pretty poor.
