Anyone on here run those 4x4 gas-magnum Monroe shocks??
I know some people dont like them but i have some sitting here off another project (that have hardly done a thing ) that i want to use on this truck until they fail ( or maybe they wont fail )
Problem is i cant seem to find a set for the back with enough travel ( need to extend to at least 600mm )
Anybody know where Monroe hide their specs for this range of shocks?

Monroes arent really a good off road shock but they would be fine for general on and off road shit, whenever I'm looking for extended/compressed lengths I have a quick look at the 4wdbits listings they have all the dimensions listed so it gives you an idea of what sort of truck has the length shock your looking for

I assumed it was going to scrap yard by the way they were lifting it onto the truck but have now noticed the writting on the Hiab

What a waste!

Ahh yeah MNC, im pretty sure thats what the owner told me was happening to it, scrap
He didnt want to talk about it much, on the upside he turned up in a totally unmolested original FJ40, 'freeborn red'. 8)
If this truck sold for $3.5k it had the 'stuffed engine' sitting in the boot?
Anyway i didnt get much of a chance to have a look before they swung her on the truck, although the old Cruiser put up a good fight
Half a dozen attempts to get it of the ground with the crane truck looking like it wanted to roll over and play dead

Just a question to those guys that have put the RVR seats in the back of cruisers, (cooksworld, MNC, MK1TNA and wjw) im looking at finding some to go in the FJ and just wondered if there is any particular year or model of RVR seats to grab or they all the same?

I got mine from a 95-96 shape, not sure of other years but theres a couple of ones being wrecked on trademe atm

Got mine out of a '94.

From memory the rails are approx 930mm wide - the seats 960mm at the widest and the gap between the wheel arches was 1030mm so there is plenty of room.

Only 6 bolts to get them out of the wagon to so its not really a big drama.

I'm going to mount mine on a frame sandwiched under the tub and on the sides of the wheel arches (at 90 degrees) to make it nice and strong for my kids.

Update, i was away in Cromwell at a wedding for a few days but a mate came round and did a bit on the rear guards for me.....We marked out the minimum we think we can cut out and not have much rub, want to keep it not to butchered if its a road truck, can always take more off later, hard to glue bits back on ! :)

Also after some ideas for the front where ive got no bumper ??
What have you got on your truck?? or have you seen something cool ??
Cheers..

whats the vtnz/cert chaps have to say about the width of front bars in relation to covering width of tyres etc?

anyone?

then that'll free up the decision on whether goin sorta stocko classic lines or custom kickass..

you have any ideas on what ya like and options you may go with?

I thought as long as the cover all the tread it's tickety boo.

My old 40 flew through.

I'll always liked the stock setup for seating in the rear. Mine was cert for 7 seats.

Wasn't as comfortable as those side by side seats though.

Yeah i wouldve liked to put some stock seats in the back Pete but the rvr seats will be comfy, only thing that i can see with them is they wont be as easy to access as the originals like you had in your 40, ie you pile the kids in the back door and they have easier access to the side seats ?
Niblik, im thinking something similar to what petefj40 had on his, just the good solid bent steel tube, i have similar size spotlights to protect and it leaves good room for a winch possibly?
Havent really talked to cert guy about the front of truck, all i know is the tyre tread has to be covered by flares down the side of truck.
Dont think you even need mudflaps on this sort of vehicle do you?
Only big rigs that need those, could be wrong?

Hey just wondering from you FJ40 guys, do you have or had a problem with your old girl leaning to the drivers side slightly?
Just wondering if i have a dodgy spring pack or they are all known for doing this for some reason?
Cheers.

ive a 74 leans too figured its sag due to driver and fual tank weight. ive still got orginal leafs so that dosent help. Seen on a american web site a extra bit of leaf you can add to level it out.

Yeah i did wonder if that might be part of the reason, im just going to get them reset and was thinking i might set one side a bit higher to try even it up for a bit longer

Ha ha ha, good read in there thanks Niblik, i knew id read somewhere about them leaning but couldnt remember where until you posted the link.
Guess to much much horsepower and torque is the excuse us 40 series owners can use then, 'twistin the whole truck over slowly'

Well i dont seem to be getting anything done fast on this build any more and im starting to wonder what ive got myself into with this paint job
The more we do to get it ready for paint, the more it seems to be getting pulled apart , not put back together :?
Anyway, a few pics to look at.......

Looks like you are not far away from the big day... spray day

Not sure if I'd mentioned this to you before but I'd highly recommend wire brushing the inside of the cab, rust proofing and then doing a layer of Hipo liner ($100 from supercheap). Use the pouris (sp) foam roller to give a textured finish. I've done this to two 40"s now and it transforms them almost as much as the exterior paint job.

ps. Truck is looking good! ... What colour will it end up?????

Yeah Niblik, the rear seats are super comfy, they fit in the rear space of the 40 real nice and still fold up well out of the way, iv got some closer pics of them installed ill post up here...

MNC im trying to keep the truck as 40 series as i can, i know ive messed around with alot of it already, engine, wheels seats etc..... but i like yellow and its going to be staying '40 mustard' at this stage 8)
Another 40 i had that ran with a Ford V8 in it, i painted the same dark blue that you have your beast painted i think? its a sweet colour
Did you find that hippo liner stayed stuck on when scraped and abused?
Could be a good idea to make the inside tidy.
