Its just easy to do it right, OCD, mm maybe but I don't think so
Re: The navara terrano morph
Its the difference between a professional craftsman and a redneck with a pipe bender...I want sliders like that, just chopped down to suit the 'finder wheelbase.
After I read the post about the stock 3800rpm fuel safety dropoff, that sure does explain it, I've yet to find any useful power above 3500rpm. Mines a later model piston squirter TD27II blacktop w stock Hitachi turbo added.

Well the sliders are sort of finished, I just have to make the brackets to hold them on there now. Now you can see the reason for the jig.
They are identical

Hardly, If you went into a fab shop and said I want a pair of sliders I can 100% guarantee they wouldn't make a jig off the first one to make the second one, any good fabricator could make a pair and get it within a mm.
The more likely scenario would be the boss riding the workers ass cos the customer complained about the bill because of the extra time.
The jig did serve a purpose in this case, Jigs have there place.

Now for the fun bit, are you bolting them on or welding them?
Re: The navara terrano morph
Mmm not sure about that. I have seen some crap jobs by fabricators that would make a person cry. I like to use jigs where I can so that I know things are spot on. I guess it's just me and maybe I am a bad fabricator
I'm going to be bolting them on. I will make the brackets next week, sandblast them then paint them

Re: The navara terrano morph
I have been busy finishing the painting on my truck so the guards and doors will be on soon. I have to pick up a new bonnet and then its good to go. I was looking to put in a qd32 but I had a stroke of luck and was given a bd30.
If you dont know what that is its a direct injection not indirect injection that bolts into a d21 / d22 Nissan platform
It uses the td27 bore with a qd32 crank. and no need for glow plugs.
direct injection makes about 30% more power on average than indirect diesel. They also run cooler as well so its a win win. 300hp is not out of the realistic possibility for this engine.
This is the big turbo im going to run on it to make the grunt. these turbos can make 200kw on a big diesel that spins to about 2500 so on my bd30 at 5000 it should be quite the little rocket.

Which on another note means I may be selling the turbo setup I have on the truck at the moment

Re: The navara terrano morph
Yup holy cow is right. These things come with a 12mm pump std. Its out of a jap import cabstar/ atlas. The ultimate td based engine you can get / build.
I wanted one so bad but near impossible to get one in aussie. More power but more economy , direct injection is awesome. They are noiser but so what I dont care about a bit more diesel clacker

that is awesome i want one lol
Re: The navara terrano morph
They are easier to find in New Zealand than in Australia due to your jap imports they come out in 1990 cabstars/ atlas trucks
Re: The navara terrano morph
Ok picked up the engine today
Going to need some work and a conrod but all good. I can fix it
Looks its a td27 with di pistons.
Its also a td head with out precoms

Re: The navara terrano morph
Hey Jared, How many bolts does that chunky looking flywheel have? Just wondering.
Cheers,
Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
Re: The navara terrano morph
6, same as your td27. if your thinking what I think your thinking
Re: The navara terrano morph
Knowledge is a valuable thing
If the TD pops, then options are always good.

Re: The navara terrano morph
This is the ultimate in the td bd qd series if it ever pops. Its direct as well so more torque just what you need
Re: The navara terrano morph
Sensational. Now it makes sense what the South Americans are on about when they talk about their 'cabstar conversions'
Are there any bottom end differences ie; in theory could you bolt the d/i head & fuel system to a td27 block?

Re: The navara terrano morph
Yes you could its pretty much a td27 block with a qd32 crank.
I need a con rod and im just trying to figure out if that one just for the bd30 or its shared by something else as well.
All the other stuff bolts on manifolds fuel pump etc, flywheel
If you got hold of a bd25 from the Philippines you could make a bd30 put of it.
I was trying hard to buy this but the guy wouldnt get back to me

Re: The navara terrano morph
the td27 and the bd30 use the same headgasket. thats how close they are
The bd30ti comes with a 12mm pump std they just have a 1900 rpm spring in there so that will stop the fun at 3800, just a quick upgrade on the spring and you unleash the revs and more power.
The bd30ti has a much better exhaust manifold as well than the td27t.
Its the hot rod of the td/qd/bd series

Hi Wax,
Nice sliders. Just wondering, how did you bend the tube? Look mandrel not crush bent....
Is the 'outside' tube with bends one piece, or joined?
Cheers.

Hi daniel, its a bender we have at work. Its not mandrel but its close it sort of rolls it. I will try and post a picture of it, but it is one piece of pipe. Its 2000mm of 32 nb pipe
Re: The navara terrano morph
Well put one of the pathfinder doors back together. Its now got all new rubbers in it and being full piece its going to get rid of those big stupid mirrors it has on it.
Re: The navara terrano morph
Went into work today and finished welding up the rock sliders. Just have to make the mounting brackets now.
I sand blastered the rocker cover in preperation for its paintjob, kinda cool looking cover it looks heaps better than the stock one.
I cant wait to get this engine going
