Just booting it up the tunnel road (up the hill bit) in OD with the hold button in, I got to near 600deg

The sump should have bolted in if ti was out of a 4wd. What was your engine out of as I wondering if it was a homy van. and this is why the sump wouldnt fit. Did you jsut use the td27 sump in the end ???

Yeah they used my sump. I have no idea what it was out of and the k's were only 10k more than my old motor.

Cool well done. Its a much better setup than the td27.

I will post engine pics in the weekend when I get some decent light (not that there is much of real difference to see), as for the truck, there is plenty I have already posted in my other posts.

On another note, I am going to put a bigger air box in the engine bay, yes there will be just enough room to shoe horn it in there if I move the winch solenoids and remote receiver over to the power steering reservoir area.

I still have not solved the issue of the hand brake light staying on all the time, going to an auto sparky to get their input.

Another wee issue is the tacho is not 100% compatible under 1200RPM as it jumps around under this or does not register at all until it goes over 1200, then it acts as normal. I could go to Parrots and get it recalibrated but I do not see the sense in spending more money at this stage?

Other than these two wee issues, there is nothing at all wrong with the setup as it is. Gear changes are as smooth as silk.

* handbrake switch
* vacuum low

I'm thinking it most likely the vacuum sensor as its something that could well have been not reconnected. Its on inner guard under airbox area, close to vacuum pump on back of alternator. I'm guessing new motor has vacuum pump mounted to engine under injector pump, so possible that its been overlooked.
Ps, if you looking at getting diff drop bushes, I'm keen so maybe we could half freight or something buying together? PM me if/when you keen.

Thats because the td27 and the qd32 do not pick up in the same place and so there will be an issue with the number of teeth its counting.
I think the td27 picks up from down under the motor. get the sensor from the td27 and tap the hole job done

I think the td27 picks up from down under the motor. get the sensor from the td27 and tap the hole job done

They did something like you suggest but I did not listen too well I will post a picture of what they did over the weekend.

BTW, have you got an QD32 engine manual at all? or know where I can get mu grubby hands on one?

Hello Nath, I have had a quick look for this sensor but cannot find it, im as blind as a bat lol.
Can you take a pic of it and send to me at all to narrow down where it is please?
You have to be on the money with your analogy as I cannot think of anything else it could be.
Or maybe someone else has a picture showing where it is?

edit, scratch that picture, I found the little bugger, now I have to get another longer length of tube and a T joiner to connect it to the vacuum line

Sweet! Just found your edited post. I take it that there was no pipe to it? The other thing you could do is disconnect sensor (and if that doesn't stop light then bridge/earth wire/s).

On the passenger side of the car there is a vacuum switch about 300mm back from the headlight. They don't have vacuum going to that so its warning you that your vacuum brakes are not working

The factory hose to it is still there but it must have been knocked under the air filter when the engine was swapped over and missed when reconnecting everything. I'm going to shoot out there tomorrow after work and get the T joiner and more hose.

The missing vacuum sensor line has been extended and plumbed in, everything is working sweet now.
I have picked up an airbox from a Surf to put in as it is about twice the size of the Ranno one. It will need the intake rotated 180deg and the top outlet extended and an elbow added to make it better align with the factory piping to the turbo now.

I will post photos tomorrow to show what I am talking about.

Tacho sensor, the TD27 sensor was inserted in here. The QD sensor is on the other side below the alternator but it is a 4 wire one unlike the TD being a 2 wire sensor.


The engine bay as it looks now.


Used as much of my original parts as possible. I know some of you will not agree with this setup, but it works and I am well pleased.


Turbo inlet cut, rotated and welded to accommodate the angle of the airbox pipe.


Simons bling is still there


Standard TD airbox


Proposed Surf airbox, it is twice the volume and will fit if I move the winch solenoid and remote packs to the other side of the engine bay. The inlet pipe will need cut and rotated 180deg and I think the top of the TD lid can be cut and welded to the Surf lid to make the outlet pipe line back up with the turbo inlet.


100A alternator, this has made a huge difference!


There is little room to insert my Sanden SD08 air compressor pump, the new alternator only has a single pulley so there is no spare to run it from now.
I was going to alter the factory aircon pump bracket to lower it as I have about 3 inches of space under it, to allow mounting the Sanden pump on top of it, squeezed in between the alternator.
I might have to think about going with an electric pump if I can find a suitable place to mount it inside the cabin; noise concerns me here?


Oil changes may be an issue now with loosing oil when the filter is removed. I have a cunning plan though, more on this later.


Now, if I move the power steering fluid reservoir a tad, I reckon I can squeeze the winch solenoid and remote receiver in here

in theory the oil changes should be easier as the oil filter should drain its contents back in to the sump?
