Yeah we are happy. Fuel use is as expected - heavy! But it's got the float on the back almost all the time. It has a nice big external factory trans cooler too. The only issue ours has is it is using a little coolant. Not heavy but still going somewhere. I did find a damp front carpet the other day so I might have to pressure test it and maybe pull the dash eventually.

Haha! By heavy would it be more than 16 litre per 100k on average? That's the figure I've used to plan a fuel budget. The plan would be 7500-10,000 km per year max. I hear they drive unlike any other 4wd on the road. Dash out sounds painful. I wonder if car makers have made it any easier over the years. I think heavily electronic vehicles are easier in this respect because it's all plug and play, no cables and levers for the heater! Actually I just did the heater matrix in my Volvo 850R. They don't get any easier! 40 minutes total.
How hard can it be?

That fuel use sounds about right. They drive really nice, independant all round I guess makes the difference. I have pulled a few dashs over the years too, hopefully if I have to remove the steering column the airbags are happy to be un-plugged and re-plugged. Some are and some need a dealer visit to be reset.

im running non turb safari had a few of them they wollow like pigs are slow but if ya look after them they will last for years ... ive towed loads over otera pass with transport trailers with amazing loads and never missed a beat .... (reason for owning a few im ruff as hell on them lol) if ya prefer a bit more speed by all means turb it as you dont need to run massive boost just to climb hills
people think i have a problem with insanity .... i dont i enjoy every minute ..... 0278900597

My experience with towing using a TD42 is painful as hell. Slow, having to thrash the hell out of them so high fuel usage (this is from a low genuine ks ie 180km) and thats just towing our 6m fiberglass boat.

Now I own a lwb with a turbo and 8psi (light as on boost) and wow. now we are talking, I use way less fuel then i did in my N/A (and I run 33"s on the road and in the n/a it was 31"s!!) and towing,,, towing is an absolute dream. Would never own one again with out a turbo.
