At present you will only be paying if your deisel...but you may have to pay if your petrol & then if your diesel pay a higher rate if your diesel.

I did get a warning about that, I had a 3 ton sticker and should have payed extra, even though I was only doing 60 odd K's!!!

I think they need to sell RUC under 4 ton in half ton sizes. Most landcruisers and such run a 3 ton badge, but can easily be over that with just passengers on board.
I don't know anyone who runs a 4 ton badge, but technically many would have to.

Yep, be careful. If it can be proved that you knew you were likely to exceed your RUDL limit, you can get pinged for false application (No tolerance on that either!), not just exceeding weight. The penalty is massively higher.

And you are highly likely to be weighed if seen by Police CVIU if they're having a quiet day. They carry extremely accurate scales and usually know the law backwards regarding RUDL and licence requirements.

Which, by the way, is the best way to get a far more accurate weight than you'll get on almost any weighbridge, provided you can find a helpful cop. Just don't use the roadside weighpits, make sure they lift all weight-sharing axles on dummies.
