Mighty Ruger M77 MKII in stainless/synthetic, with Leupold VX1 and Harris bipod.
Its great for the first 2 shots then goes rubbish.
Has anyone else had the same problem?
It was suggested i should free float the barrel?
what you got?
Re: what you got?
Dug up an old thread eh.
Rugers have a funny self bedding block up front so as you tension the bolt down it pulls it down and back. A pain in the ass for bedding. Floating has been a bit hit and miss. Usually it helps but I've heard of a few that made it far worse. Easy to do though with a dowel and some sandpaper so see how it goes.
They have a 6 1/2 pound trigger or there abouts so a bit of work on the trigger sear or an aftermarket timney kit helps them a lot. Try shooting different ammo too...If your not loading, hornady superformance 150gr and winchester 150gr cxp2's go well in a few I know of.
If you strip it down be careful not to tension the front trigger guard bolt too much as it can bow the receiver ever so slightly.
Other than those points get a lot of shots down range to really see if its not you throwing the rounds rather than the gun. Can then go to the effort of a recrown or more if really needed but a 1.5 - 2in group at 100yds is gonna smoke whatever your looking at.
