Well spent Friday night getting fucked around by Air NZ cancelling flights and shit,but finally got home from Wellington at 11.30pm after making a scene and some fancy language not bad for a 7.30 arrival (fuckin tossers)
, done piss all Saturday then had some good tucker at XJ,s(perved on his mrs)
,got amped up to go for a cruise on a new block that never happened, so decided to rewire stereo circuit, fit new speakers, installed a turbo timer, wired in a car alarm
,only to have it go off allnight waking up the neighbour then i misplaced the bloody remote and got fuk all sleep.
Yet another great weekend!!

The track to the very top of thompsons has been rutted badly a standard suzuk could make it to the top 6 month ago no stuch luck now

which standard zuk would that have been coxy? It hasnt changed bugger all in 12 months as far i can tell. 6 months ago it was summer. now its winter. What has changed is the extra tracks off to the side that have already been discussed.

drove up there, yes was in late summer , now the ruts are so bad i can't avoid them , i could of winched up or used a spade and cut the track wide for steps for the wheels to sit on and drive up

yea the bottom of that summit track has cut out a fair bit,i would say a zook might get lost in the ruts down there, once clear of the bottom water cuts its not bad....still seems to tip a few people over tho....eh CALLUM

photos just dont do that track justice, its about 18 times steeper and nastyer than it looks in the pics and vids

Firstly, and mainly, who are we to go and "make the track easier"? There are other users who may wish it to remain as it is, and as such we have no right to do as we please with it.
Secondly, why not leave it as it is? Then those with either a) the balls, or b) the machines, to conquor it can, and all power to them, they will have deserved to get to the top. If ya aint got the gonads, or the capable waka, to paddle up there, then simply dont do it.
I doubt that ill try to get the Wrangler up there, i dont want to damage it (well, not yet anyway) but im not going to moan about it, instead ill yell scream and holler for others to keep peeling it back as best they can. And be happy for them when they do.

our club had a very interesting meeting with DOC once who showed us photographic evidence of this type of thing happening and they clearly stated that in thier land they would rather we fix the track we can't get past or stay out all together.
I noticed a little video a week ago of one of our ORE members driving off the track through the bush and back onto the track, just to avoid a few trees that had fallen on the track. I didn't say anything then, but I thought it was wrong.
I have never been up thomos, and have no idea who owns the land, but I believe it doesn't matter whose land it is.
If we abuse and damage what we've got then we could lose it all.
our club trips always have a chainsaw(just in case), and you should always have a spade, it only takes a few minutes out of your playing to create a run off for water of fill in a particularly large hole you believe could cause problems later.

Just to correct you on one point there, it was in PLANTATION FORESTRY, i.e, it will all be logged in the near future, all that native under growth will be absolutely demolished flattened destroyed and wrecked. As a result, i have no problem with what we did. The same applysw to the play ground, it is in a stand of pinus radiata and there are tracks EVERY WHERE weaving there way through them. At first you may think its disgracefull, but when you have seen what happens when a block is logged, you would understand that all of that undergrowth we go crashing through is destined to be destroyed during logging operations in the next few years.

Well, everything is destined to be destroyed (death is permanent) so why worry about anything at all. Lets just do what we please and where we please!!!!
Tracks are there for a reason and I think we should stick to them, unless there is an extreme danger to life (but not so much to property because our trucks would qualify as property). This is particularly applicable for land that has public access. Private land is different as it depends on the owner of the land to dictate what is acceptable.

I have done track building and repair I also used to carry a chainsaw with me (it needs work). The number of times I have come across boggy areas that are impassable without a bit of work is fairly minimal, but...
I can't judge what others have done before me because I was not there in their situation on that track in those conditions making that decision. Removeing a tree that has fallen across a track in the rain on a slipery track I don't think would have been safe myself, and as for turning around some places you can't and some places it is easier or safer to keep going.
Yes by all means do track building where you think it is needed but do it in a safe manner and where and when it is appropriate. If someone was injured in the forestry area trying to clear the track (and they tried if you read the thread) that would mean no access for anyone.
I believe everyone on here has some responsability for what they do, where they go and how they do it but it is their decision and no-one can second guess it.

Just to clarify (and avoid an unintended cat fight), I was not second guessing the actions or criticising what was done on the day. I had read the story at the time and took it to be reasonable actions under the circumstances.

Sunday 26th August and the Taupo 4wd Club had a play day at a cockies paddock.
It only took 20 mins and Pricey had rolled his lexus surf. Not to be outdone, Scott followed suit about 10 mins later and we thought this day could be a mistake
Not to worry though as everyone else behaved and we had lots of fun.
