Thats awesome... you'd have to be pretty happy with it - apart from the fact it still has IFS :)

Nice work

well bit of an update, rear bar is 99% finished, hooks on,removalble tow bar made up and spare wheel carrier with jerry can fitted, only thing left to do is put on passenger side vertical protection bar and paint
Image
Image

as of the other weekend the truck has now had bunnings flares added  ,look heaps beta by being strait making the truck look higher cos they dont droop down covering half the gap,so im happy as with those
Image

also got my new dash board control plate set up,nicely colour coded with some flash leds and in dash fuses so i can pop them out easily if i was to get pulled over  dont wana be caught with roof spots forward and backwards that work at anytime
Image

speking of that got new reversing spots/work lights fitted, just ran a singe relay with double power feed, just with a 1way thingy on the feed from reverse light so thats made things alot easyier to see at night

along with all this im still attempting to make a start on my front bar and have now got a cb to install, lol, slow n steady wins the race

Yeah I should really put a steering spacer in  Wanted to have a chat about a cross member as well.
Been spending to much time on my Zuk and neglecting the Surf a bit.

Should catch up some time for a beer.

Those steering spacers are really good for the job, but there is another option :D
Solid axle (non-IFS)Prado's have a slip joint in their steering shaft which make body lifts etc on surfs no problem as you can ues a slip joint as both spline ends are the same, if you need to shorten the slip joint (I had to) just shorten both male and female sectons.
Very cheap option, here's a couple of pics

If your doing a 50mm bodylift, I found that the shaft from an LN65 was about 40mm longer than the one in my old LN60 and fit perfectly.
So much less f-ing around.

Tim.

i made it up myself monaro427,and yeh there are shafts out there but with me living in auckland we pay like 10times what u guys down south do,and thats if ya can find what ya looking for,so depending on who u are and what u do 4 a living, myself being an engineer it was much simpler to make a spacer than the hassle of ringing round to find part and then at a good price

well bit more of an update, have installed another switch & fuse into my dash board to manually active my electric fan when i want to,also went in to get whel alignment because of a front end vibration, after having it up on the hoist and adjusting it i noticed the real problem, after unbolting the front 2 body mounts i get this
Image

Image

so this week im gona be drilling out 6mm holes wherever the original spot welds were and will be boling it back together and then welding it right round the outer edge to hopefully add some strength and let it last a liltle longer, pretty sure this will stop the vibration  at the mo i grab the front end and it moves up and down a total of approximatly 30mm,not really the best

That's why most people stick to a max body lift of 2 inches. Less leverage on the body mounts/chassis etc.

mhm mayb so,the things this truck have done in terms of the nose pointing to the sky then really making contact on the way back down i think were more likely the cause, plus only a few spot welds is dick all,im more than hapy with this minor amount of damage compared to only having 2" lift and not fitting my 35s etc, like i say, small amount of work this weekend and shell be all fixed, ive also not been doing much wheeln of the flying variety latey, more crusing, holes and twisty stuff (ie all the stuff which keeps all wheels firmly on the ground) so dont anticepate it happing again, just anuther of those small bugs ya gota iron out,if i eva get round to putting up some vids ul see what its been up to to cause this sorta prob

Vids please :D

I guess thats a big problem with IFS, when you jump and then land hard the wishbones will twist the top of the chassis rails towards each other.

well bit of an update, trucks been off the road for couple weeks, head bolts came loose and it stopped driving  so tightened them back up and it was sweet but ive now got a pressurising radiator on start up but remove the cap and no bubbles so iv left it to sit and im driving the wifes car, once brother n laws truck is done in 2-3 weeks ill get stuck into it,at the mo theres a few jobs ive started and never finished so im gona do a type of mini rebuild kinda thingy

*onbard air tank im moving out of boot and under the floor
*gonna put draws in the back
*add last few bits to rear bar to finish off then paint
*have 6x new narvaspotlights that need setting up 4x roof, 2xfront bumper
*rear shock top bolt keeps falling out so gona sort that out aswell as looking at moving the lower mounts up so better clearance and will give me more length for more flex
*extend rear bumpstops seeing that im running 2" coil spacers
*have to move cb aerial and probly gonna put on roof cos getting crap reception compared to others
*sort the twitch in the front end, posibly lower slightly aswell as im getting uneven tyre wear to a point im not really happy with or should i say i know i can correct
*make up custom roof rack basket as current one is crap shape and size and has no strength
and a couple of others but thats what i remember at this stage

and then for the big one, xmas or early new year am wanting to do 3.8 v6 commy conversion so am currently lokking for donor vechile and getting bits a pieces together, have 2x r150 boxes sitting ready at home so if anyone has commy they wana get rid im lokking, also if anyone has a commy to r150 bellhosing around they arnt using and want to move on im interested so let me know ya price
thats enought for now, will update more later

ok so been ages since ive updated but have been moving forward with things slowly  ,here ma donour vechile, its actually a 94 vr commy ( previous owner had it completly wrong  )

Image

Image

have tracked downa guy that can do a computer with stage 3 memcal for $100

have also talked to the exaust supplys guys and priced up a full 2.5" xaust with 2x flowmaster mufflers at under $300 so just got to get motor in so i can see which way im gona plumb it and go buy the parts, this should give it pretty good flow aswell as be usable and suitable for when the super charger gets added

a big thanks to tim whos been helping me through the wiring issues so i now know i just need a vn wiring loom and that'll get that part sorted

earlyer in the week i got the snorkel off and have flaper disked that back as it was starting to rust  thatll serv me right for just spraying it with a can and rushing to get it on the 1st time

also got stuck into it this arvo after finishing off oscars truck, now have motor and box out, bumper and rad out plus few other extra bits removed :D

have also checked out the motor a bit, have picked up a new heater adaptor fitting from autolab which will fix the water leak the motor currently has,a whole $17 bucks worth  ,but i do need it as id prefer to keep the heater option in my surf, motor once out im gona give a birthday, plugs, leads, oil service, fuel filter, and will need new xaust gaskets as they are slightly leaking, and them opnce in a good old rad flush and some injector cleaner and i think itll be good as new

have also picked up a new 4 in 1 tacho while on sale so thatll cover all the bases of watching the motor carefully in an attempt to pick up any issues before it costs me more moneythan i dont already have

Image

plan for next week is to get the r150 box in and make sure i can utilise my old gearbox xmember otherwise ill need to modify or make a new 1,also going to remove the 3.8 ,so i can get that floating in the engine bay to start sizing things up,aswell as making a start on new engine mounts

mhm, thats alot of writing, enough for now

ok well more pics and updates, hers shots of the empty engine bay i have to work with

Image

Image

and heres a shot of the 2 boxes i have at my disposal, see the one on the left with the red spray paint mark, that means its either good or bad  dont ya just hate it when ya cant remember which way you did it :x

Image

also through talking with nick and tim have now confirmed the myth that marks adaptors are infact longer than there dellow counterparts, but only by a whole 8mm  ,also found during the measureing that the g52 and r150 boxes are identical in length aswell as their bellhousings which i thort maybe usful to someone in the future

ok,well bit of an update, not much been happining latley due to lack of funding which wont arrive till feb / march next year but still managing to get a few things done

picked up my stage 3 memcal off trade me guy
(this is a vp comp as i canot use a vr computer with manual box,up until vp the autos where cable driven,vr and after its all electronical so there must be a auto box talking to the comp to make it work)

Image

after that went to pick apart and got vn comp plugs for $15
(vr plugs wont match vp comp due to little tags being different, all wiring is the same tho so just a matter of popping all the pins out of each plug and reinserting them into vn plug in correct order)

Image

also got a set of stainless steel extractors off trademe which are now just waiting to be put on

motor has been pulled from commy and water fitting replaced, motor was then just sat back in engine bay till i make more progress with bellhousing

Get a stanley knife on to those little tabs on the plug and it'll fit on any comp. Done it on mine and seems it might be a bit easier than changing all the pins.
