Minor progress. Few we things to finish off.
Then I can drive it. I'll probably roll it leaving my driveway but thats ok.
Cheers Steve too for the Springs and steel.

That is all.

Ok, Thinking about attempting to get this bloody thing finished. Does anyone have any links to good information on dual setups. I need a bit of info to help me through it.

Re: Project Hilux 101
Well I'm looking at getting one of Jafa's Trailgear Adaptors.
I am currently running a W56 so Just trying to find out about spline counts etc as I see there is reference to 21 spline and 23 spline.
I remember a few years ago a guy did a great picture by picture build up on a dual setup and I was wondering if anyone knew where that thread was.
Basically I'm going to attempt it but I was after a good read of info etc first.
Also, can I use any top shifting Hilux transfercase or does it have to be form a W56?
Thanks Daniel

Re: Project Hilux 101
From reading that, as long as my front transfer case input is 21 spline to match my gearbox, I can run the back transfercase as a stronger 23 spline but I'll need a V6 Transfer case. I have my old transfercase from the original 4y Motor gearbox. But that'll be a 21 Spline. Bugger!
Re: Project Hilux 101
you can buy the 23 spline input shaft as a separate item (pretty sure that is how I did mine anyway) from Jafa. Check out the TG site (where those links took you), lots of info on there.

Re: Project Hilux 101
Yeah I saw that there too. I just looked out my old box and case. Its not going to be any use. transfer stick and gear stick both come out of the gearbox and the transfercase is all one piece. Does anyone have an old W56 transfercase kicking around. Don't really want to buy a whole W56 box. Cheers Daniel

Re: Project Hilux 101
I've pulled out the transfer case and reduction box together. How the bloody hell do I split the reduction box from the transfer case. Only thing stopping me is the 4wd Selector. I've removed the interlock pin and the High Low Selector, Just trying to work this out. Any info would be appreciated.

Nice job
How much higher than std did you get it before stuff started getting in the way?

The truck has a 50mm body lift and I had made another crossmember before this one. Had to change it cos of the duals.
But now the rear case is 10-15mm from the underside of the body. Without butchering the floor much more I couldn't get it too much higher. All in all I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Re: Project Hilux 101
Driveshaft tech time.
Whats the feeling on driveshafts. Before I go and pay to get them made and balanced, what are peoples thoughts on Double cardinals and where they should be etc.
I've read about CV's in the driveline etc but I don't have any spare to throw around and would rather stick to the basics.
So what's peoples thinking?
Cheers Daniel

Re: Project Hilux 101
If you running duals, you are more likely to need dbl cardinal at the back than the front. But if both shafts are similar in length it shouldn't be a big deal

Hi Rokhound, thanks for the reply.
My rear shaft is longer than the front and I am running duals.
But what exactly does the DC achieve in this situation and what makes it more likely to be run at the back?
From all my research and reading to complete this build, I've never come accross much on driveshafts.
Would double cardinals on both driveshafts be a bad idea??
Thanks again.
Daniel
Re: Project Hilux 101
Nope. Double cardens allow a steeper angle to be obtained on the drive shaft without having the balance issue that std joints cause.
A std u joint runs in a small elliptical pattern, and this is exaggerated when put into action on steeper angles (short drive shafts). The dbl carden goes a fair way to reducing this issue.
My rear drive shaft is heaps shorter than the front one so I will have one on the rear for sure, and I'll throw one in the front for good measure

Awesome.
I was thinking along those lines regarding angles etc. Thanks for your help!

Nice work going on here
What falcon springs did you use to do this mod?

If you break it... build it stronger.

To be honest I can't remember exactly. I'm sure that info can be found on ORE somewhere though.
