Cruiser is looking AWSOME!!

Must be a wicked feeling to be able to drive it for real even if is just down the driveway!

No longer will you have to sit in the drivers seat and just imagine like Im doing at the moment.

washer bottle in, wipers wired up..
Image

made the rear pair of cage to chassis bracing's today but meh, no pics of that..

had a small muck around in the drive.. not too keen to go full on without the cage on at the mo..

Image

Image

thinkin i need to play with the coils on the front.. although they flex ok, could be better.. must put the bonnet and cage on to try it more.. might be slightly different..
Image

although in this next pic it seems to work ok, crush side is 2 or 3 inches from full crush..
Image

found an issue with my power steerin today...

when steerin, in 4wd, it seems to almost be bindin up.. ie the steerin goes hard so i cant turn the wheel.. seemed to be fine goin down the road though.. just under load when in 4wd and locker on....

the pumps plumbed up right as the threads are slightly different and would only do the one way.. plus as i said earlier, goes ok on road..

thoughts?

Nibz, have a search around for an ARMSTRONG steering box, these where very popular in the early cruisers, may help with your problem. You havn't dropped your VIAGRA pills into the power steering resevoir  , that would make it STIFF.

LOOKIN GOOD FRIEND,

FITZY.

managed to make the front half of the exhaust...
Image

and the rear half..
Image

ended up tuckin up out of the way well.. (lumpy helpin me...)
Image

rear top coil brace bar was a bit light weight to use as a top shock mount, so this is before..
Image

and this is after.. made a new bar with multiple spots for shock placings..
Image

made these bottom shock mounts to be trimmed and welded to tube.. threaded etc..
Image

and new shocks that joey helped unpack.. hmmm thinkin they might be a little short.. :? time will tell..

Image ah well.. i guess i've hung onto mine longer than you have for all of yours? :P

well, back on topic..

when i first started the torque monster and drove her, there was a noise from within the bellhousing, which seemed to settle pretty quick.. wasnt sure what it was exactly but didnt sound structural or too distructive, more like a rattling.. also found i couldnt put the second set of transfers into low low.. but yet the layshaft accuated all the way? anyhoo, only way to go was strip the transfers off and the take the gearbox off too and have a look.. sure enough when i stripped the transfers down and had a decent looky, the gear lever wasnt being allowed to move through the entire motion due to the alloy of the housing... cleared that out of the way.. thats that sorted..

pulled the gearbox out of the way and found the clutch release/thrust bearing to be a bit worn.. checked the clearances from front to back and all is well there.. went and got a std 3b's bearing for comparison (no carrier) as i was using a hilux's bearing..
Image

erm.. quite the difference..

then did a few measurements and research... diameter of my r151 gearbox shaft is 35mm.. the cruisers are a tad more... hmmm.. a 10mm difference.. make a spacer/sleeve set up? find a 3b set up? make a hybrid 3b,hilux thrust bearing?

no!!

luckily have been able to find the bearing to suit the 35mm splined gearbox shaft and same diameter of bearing face that meets the clutch fingers.. (was main problem initially as hilux bearing was too small to meet and act as the mighty 3b's does.) larger diameter on the surface that meets the clutch fingers with the new bearin where the hilux's was too small means it was goin in too far, rubbin on outer of housing on bearing and ate it.. goodly...

pic of the old bearing and the new complete one.. aw yeah.. a simple buy off the shelf item..
Image

so aside from the old bit of metal gettin scraped off the eye from my dr, it's assembly time for the driveline again.
