Haven't heard much from bulletproof lately. Can the mods make this thread a sticky? There is too much good shit in this thread to lose amongst all the dross.

To show I still have the Hilux and are alive. Here is a photo taken 30mins ago, still covered in mud from getting stuck picking up pegs with James(Toysuzi )at the National Trials on Sunday. We had to be rescued by a 15 ton digger.

After breaking the windscreen with Jafa it is good to have a new screen with no scratches.

thats us, cleared the hazard but couldn't quite get it over the top, had to run and get a strop from the speed section and get the pirate to tow us over the top, it wasn't going to be pretty if we had to back off there

New addition to the Hilux. A new Garmin Nuvi 760 GPS.

Image

And just ordered the official topo maps of NZ with the high resolution aerial photos so should have no reason to get lost in the bush anymore. Hopefully !

First test at Easter when we hopefully will find a historic power station.

Cheers Richard

A couple of small mods to the mods.

I have bent the drag link 3 times now in 3 months so have extended the protection out some more. Might fit a high steer arm on the left side to lift the drag link up a bit. I think it would work alright with the panhard angle.
I have also bent the steering damper but dont know what to do about that. Not many options

Image

My cruiser steering box keeps coming loose on the chasis mount so have now welded the mount to the chasis.

Image

Time will tell

Cheers Richard.

PS
DB may know of the old power station in the Alexander off the Snowy river rd. We went in there for first time in 10 years at xmas and opened the track but haven't got to the power station yet.

NZ topo maps arrived so loaded them into GPS and went for a 10min drive to see what they are like. Wished I had one years ago.
Here is a picture of the screen showing fires breaks at the top of Marsden Valley behind Stoke. The tracks and firebreaks are drawn in red.
The Firebreak above the 600metre line on Jenkins Hill is very steep in a couple of places and goes up over 300metres (nearly a 1000 ft) and to my knowledge only 3 trucks have ever driven up it. At the bottom of it the country is too steep for a bull dozer and nearly goes vertical for 100metres.
Half the Nelson area has tracks like this area so there are miles of firebreaks.

The real GPS test will be next weekend

Cheers Richard

Hi Dave
It is Maptoaster from integrated Map. it is Version TOGZ-V1.1.16 for Gamin GPSs covering the whole of NZs Topo 1.50,000

Image

Image

We have just come back from walking the dog and the GPS map showed a walking track 10 mins from my house that we didn't know existed and I have only lived here for 35 years.

I bought the LINZ Maptoaster PC maps as well for the whole country including all satelite and Aerial photos so I can now plan 4x4 trips better and pre program intended Routes.

Cheers Richard

An adjustment to my panhard rotating end that works really well.

The Rubbers I used are the nissan rear radius rod bushes. Since I have fitted it the rubbers seem to have softened allowing some side movement and a little shimmy on the steering wheel.

I have now fitted a piece of exhaust tube around the out side of the rubbers and now there is no side movement at all.

Pic before

As it is now.
