bj40 build...
Re: bj40 build...
I wish I had just used a line lock for my Handbrake. Would have saved days of head f**king and silly things like custom disk rotors on the back of the transfercase.
There's gotta be some rocks round here SOMEWHERE!

Re: bj40 build...
after a bit of time off from the fawdy what with playin around on/in vomitron, its time to get back into it..
after the debarcle with the thrust bearing version one, i had installed a second bearin. once it ws tested i found that there was a slight rattle comin form within the bellhousing.. sigh!!
so then came the strip down of twin transfers and gearbox and pull the clutch cover and plate off..
hmmmmmmmmmm....
no visual sign of wear and tear / rubbin.. with much thanks to classic cruiser spares who took to clutch specialists and deduced there was a metal pair of rings that when the pedal was mashed, would loosen, giving the rattle.

he then sourced a new heavy duty fawker so chucked that in..

so thanks heaps for that fella..
so put the gearbox and parts all back in, filled with fluids, levers back on, tested, all goodly!! awshum!!!
also added another crossmember by where the stocko one used to be.. thought i'd add it there for strength and future useful plans.. will get photo's of that sometime, cos i can..
now some tow hooks and testin time..
have played with the idea of guards of some sort.. but will work on that more later..

Re: bj40 build...
made a removable winch mount for the fawdy..
got a superchump winch for it.. should do for the time being, till version 2 comes along..
firstly lost some weight off the front, the front spring hangers fell off. made the mount to sheath under the crossmember and encapsulate the winch bolts, through the mounting plate, winch and bottom gusset mounts.. it also has another couple of bolts through the top plate and tapped into the top of the crossmember.. perhaps i might put another long bolt right through the entire crossmember and winch plate as the other two mounts have been done, just no gusset.

Fixed it. But as it is a few cylinders shy of making good noises, he has heaps of room

Re: bj40 build...
i'm guessing your gonna cap the end of the chassis rails?? make caps extend onto crossmember and then the whole lot be stronger.
mount the solenoid in the engine bay or the cab. let me know how much cable you need and i'll send up some nice heavy stuff with the mrs when she comes to get the diff bits in early jan..

bolted trans cover down properly, made provisions for front tow hook to bolt down, just need the bolt.. labelled glow and starter switches
.. made some caps for ends of chassis rails.. put on some bonnet hooks.. then mucked around with a guards idea..

today!

took the fawdy up worsley's today to test out the running gear and see 'what gives'... was a good day weather wise with a couple of like minded wheelers joining the fun..
i didnt get any pics or vids.. think a couple of others did.. just gotta wait to get it uploaded..
all the suspension travel went well with the coilovers and rears doin what theyre meant to.. got twisted up a few times, at one stage the passengers b pillar got a push in whilst i tried to take a 'different line'..

did get stuck and try the winch, but the bolts were'nt up to it but the good news is the bracket i made for it was, so just finish mounting the bracket (where it bolts to front crossmember, need some high tensile bolts as i wasnt fully finished with the mounting of the winch..) and it should be good for another decent testin..
power steering pump.. i had my rust inhibitor goin hard as the front seal on the main shaft has got a leak (knew this prior to heading out) so will refurb the pump soonly..
also the front arb difflock doesnt seem to be unlocking properly.. disengage and its still like the front has a welded nugget in there.. must be how i've plumbed up the arb perhaps.. powersteer wont be helpin things..
it climbs really well, no 'yawning' in the front and it sure is a bloody pleasure to wheel some coils offroad!!

all up i'm pretty happy with how the truck went..

fingers crossed the vids and pics follow soonly..

it went well up the big rock in the garden fella.. plenty of other ruts and stuff to get all twisted in too.. was good to choose lines a bit different to norm.. i love the oober slow crawlin styles..
looks like theres a bit of fence down and some peeps have been drivin up inside the treeline if thats right? its not us 4 wheelers is it?
lol rexo.. its changed direction a couple of times.. "oh, i'll just look at this wiring issue and lift the body off, oh, might just soa it, oh might coil rear, oh might coil front...
