Agreed! nice pics and it looks like a great time out!
I've got tons 50 pages of build thread to read over too.
What was the main reason for pushing the axle back to where it is?

Re: bj40 build...
cheers for the kind comments.. hope to have more fawdy porn in the near future..
yeah, its the barn bay trip in a few photos.. it is an epic bit of area and was hugely cool.. nothin too hardcore, just a really good drive. the hope was low and easy to cross..
the front was moved forward and rear back to get better approach/departure angles, create better lengths for control arms (translates to better numbers in the calculator for triangulation and anti-squat etc), enable nicer manners with handling in general driving, hill climbs and descents plus equalise the length of both front and rear driveshafts (with having duals and 5 speed etc)...

Time for a nap after a days wheeling!

Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Is that panhard rod supposed to have that big bend in it? I can see the need for a bit to clear the diff head but that much unsupported? Its gonna give at some point.
Looks mint out in the bish though, you must be stoked to get it out of the shed and on the trail.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed
Re: bj40 build...
Well Nibbz the Grey Headed Old Fella has been trying to think of some smart arse contribution to make to this thread but you have got me stumped
.
Well done Nibby, not only have you finished an excellent build , you have also shared it with us through this thread, like the add says " Good things take time", Thanks Nibbz, I can picture the look on your face as you drove through the West Coast bush and those that know you will see it to :-

Nah, you've done an awesome job of it Nibby, looking really great. You should be pretty proud of what you've achieved there.

Re: bj40 build...
Nibz, why did you feel the need to dig holes to park your rear wheels in prior to your nap? Handbrake no good?? or you forgot you had 4wd and got tired of wheel spinning to the point you dozed off..
Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..
Re: bj40 build...
Good stuff nibby, after going through this it almost makes me want to build another 4wd.

Don't blame me, and you shouldn't drink if you get ugly

I think Nibz may need to have a play with some spring rates. The front axle unloads very easily. All these things are a learning process when you start playing with your toy in the real world. Pete is going through a similar process with his now, although different issues have him guessing.
It's all good though and this is part of the deal, and why I always suggest that you grow with your and your vehicle capabilities and keep making changes progressively along the way.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
Re: bj40 build...
Good points rok.
I was just playing with ya though.
Some would say I've eaten more donuts than you mate.

as rok said, my front ends unloading.. *snickers* as we had discussed rok, its something i'll look into etc.. theres a couple of ideas i'm toyin with..
it cant be gauged and seen in this pic but whilst heading down hill on the track, started turning up out of ruts and up a reasonably steep bank, hence its like this..
so really, this picture, as most of them do, doesnt represent the situation so well..
and yes please pete, i'll have some of those donuts..

Re: bj40 build...
got bored with stuff on vomitron so chose to spend some time on the fawdy.. decided to run a pair of batteries in parallel so began gettin the 2nd batteries home made. a frame of angle bolted to rear wheel well and webbing to strop down the battery box..

and in this position will protect the radiator from stray branches and convenient when usin an air bed pump etc..
