Well I got the new bushes fitted but the truck is still making a terrible knocking sound and a squeek when it goes over bumps or it jolts.

I have a feeling it could be something to do with the transfer case linkage but I'm not completely sure. My mechanic couldn't seem to figure it out but I'm taking it in again soon.

Any ideas what the lift could have done to create these noises? :?

Cheers.

Hiu Rych,

After we completed the 2" coil spacer lift on our TJ it has also developed a knock. My wife was convinced she could feel it under her feet on the passenger side, but I was unable to find anything. Only thing I have found is that the passenger side rear brake cable bracket had broken, but I can't believe this would create enough force and noise to equal what we could hear and feel.
Anyway let us know if you find anything and I will do the same.
Cheers

Hi Rych,

Just to let you know. I spent and hour under the beast last night trying to discover the rattle, knock etc. The only things I found were:
1. There is a metal tube that runs across the bottom of the firewall on the passenger side. It is about 5-6mm in diameter. Very small but was knocking against the fire wall.
2. The linkage that runs down to the transfer case is worn and a bit loose. This doesn't hit anything but there appears to be a rubber holding gromet thingy there. The bar that connects in there seems to rattle a bit but I didn't think enough to make that sort of noise.
3. As per previous email the bracket on the rear passenger brake cable that bolts up to the lower control arm had broken off. Once again I didn't think it would make that sort of noise, but who knows.

Will have another go tomorrow and will let you know if anything else comes to light.

Cheers

Well I got rid of the squeaks. Rear muffler, transfer case linkage was sitting up against the original mount, so got the holes bored a bit so it would sit lower and the glove box squeaked also lol.

Now the knocking sound has changed slightly, and I'm pretty sure its the transfer case linkage, because the knock goes away when I put it into 4wd. There's are bit of movement under there and I'm not sure exactly how I will get rid of it.

Also it's very stiff getting into 4wd / 4wdL, so might have to try make some adjustments there.

Well I decided I'm gunna pull that body lift out. Caused far too many troubles. Real stiff shifting between 4wd and low, sometimes pops outa 4wd or rides really rough, it clanks etc etc... Seems to be too much strain on the transfer case linkage even with the adapter, everything's all stretched. Guess its an unnatural lift pulling the body away from the chassis..

So if anyone want's a body lift kit lol, give me a tinkle and it's your for a hundy!

Nothing at all wrong with mine, 4wd goes in and out like it did when it came out of the factory. Oh well, "no two Jeeps are made alike".

RJ, I guess we have a little job next weekend??

Yea, it's not really ideal for me in Auckland. 99% of the time its being used on the road and I'd rather be driving a nice car. If I lived back in Queenstown however a trucked worked nicely down those ways.

Yep, nice looking rig. Good luck with your sale! If I thought I could manage it I would flick ours and upgrade to yours.
