Cheers dude. I'm keen to come to the Tron and learn a few tricks from you guys. 8)

I'm quite keen to finish off all the cosmetic stuff before taking it out on a trip as if I dont I know it wont happen (and now is the best time as all the mud has dried and fallen off in the shed over the last 3 yrs  )

I better pull finger :!:

One of the good bastards in our club offered to show some love to my 40.

With all the wet weather lately he hasn't able to work so offered my truck a place in his nice big shed... and things have started happening....

First a custom snorkel made out of 3" exhaust pipe appeared:

Image

Then bits of the rusty rear tray started disappearing with bigger bits of new steel going in their place (and a recessed recovery gear box in the making):

Image

And a plan was formed to fit the spare tire up against the rear of the roll cage:

Next Sunday its getting a nice we sanding...

Spent total of 9hrs sanding today and my back is stuffed :!: :!: :!:

I arrived at mates place 10am this morning to find heaps already done on truck :D Aircleaner is mounted and the rear guards have been reshaped with rod and panel steel :D

My brother in law made up a cover for the shocks and a nice big box for recovery gear (or beers if I fill it with ice  ) which got welded in place:

Stripped the truck down and got into the sanding... is it just me or does sanding suck???

And now its all starting to take shape:

Sanding, it has to be done.... On the brightside, you have cut most of the deck away to fit the tyres so that'll make it easier!

Looking good keep it up.

Yeah man, sanding SUCKS. As does patching rust, but its gotta be done.

Can't wait to see it out wheeling. Has it still got the Hot 6 in it?? The one that shreded the T.Case and smashed the housing into two halves last time it was out

Its gonna look cool, can see it already!! You going for recessed LED tail lights??

 Cheers Nibs. The shape needs to be round to allow max up flex while still fitting between the roll cage mounts. Ron welded a rod round the edge to tidy it all up and it is looking a lot better than the state I( was going to leave it in (half square and half round guards that didn't match  ).

I've just about finished painting the rims and we should be doing final sand and bog, and maybe even prime coat this Sunday :D

Cheers dude, Yeah I want STIC to take some of those cool hot rod shots he does  Pity we live on different islands :(

Oh that is a painful memory... Yip, same engine. Got to admit I'm pretty nervous about what i'm going to brake now with the bigger rubber...

DieselBoy wrote:Its gonna look cool, can see it already!! You going for recessed LED tail lights??

Yip, recessed LEDs all ready to go in.

Mate, I'm a fan of black 40s as well but wanted something a little different. One of my brother in laws is a panel beater and scored 4ltrs of 2K paint slops for me for a box of beers. Shes going blue (planning on painting the lexus 40 black though  )

muddyhilux wrote:very nice, curve doesn't look out of place either IMO,keep up the hard work and you'll have a grin a mile wide in 6 weeks

Cheers dude, basically its my mates doing stuff and keeping me motivated to work on it when I get the chance. Just a couple hours after work each day makes a huge difference... Also the deadline helps - I always work better to a deadline

For its maiden outing and as a first test run I really should do the shiny trip... But thats just not going to happen

 Actually not a bad idea...

I had been planing on welding some chain with a small section of rubber hose to the side bars when/if they eventually go on.

Think I'll just drive it for awhile and see how I go. I'm over mods and missing driving. Need some time in the hot seat now to see how it performs.

Only bought one new tyre  to match a second hand bogger I had already acquired.

Budget was a bit of a limiting factor. Over half the cost of the tyre goes in Shipping, GST, & Customs. I am keen to upgrade the other 3 but need a way to drop the shipping cost before I would even consider it.

I do have 6 x 39.5" Swampers now though so could sell someone a spare if needed?

Showed up at my mates place today expecting to do more sanding and found the magical shoe fairy (Ron) had been busy at work on my truck during the wet week.

Still some more internal sanding and paint to do but fitted the rims I'd painted and got some update pics...

Image

Caught a photo of the magical shoe fairy in this one

And from the rear:

Still lots to do but its coming together nicely. Reckon I'll be ready for the Rodney Club Safari on 2nd week of Nov
