50 4.88 :1
80 4.55 :1
410 4.1 :1
A common thing in the 70s & 80s was to use BMC A60 rear diffs as they were dime a doz, had close to matching ratios and it didn't matter if you welded one up.
John Cowper used to build lockers into A60 diffs for trials guys

jock wrote:Okay did some pulling apart today and found out some good news for you LJ20 drivers about disk brake conversions.
Firstly some facts.
Lj50 and lj20 share the same part number for the front axle shaft
Lj50 and lj20 share the same size balls on the front axle( the bit were the wheels turns on)
Lj20 has a smaller diff centre than lj50 but that is the only difference between the two.
Sj410 and sj413 share the same balls as the LJ20 and lj50.
sj410 burfeild/cv joints fit directly onto LJ20/lj50 shafts.
sj413 do NOT.
So to convert to disk brakes this is what you need.
Your LJ20 diff stripped
your front axles with the burfeild/cv removed
SJ410 burfeild/cv joint ntn part number ???? (I wrote it down but now can't find it. Will post it tommorrow)
SJ413 front diff from the knuckle out. The free wheeling hub will fit the sj410 cv too.
Just fit the Sj410 burfeild onto the lj20 axle. Then reassemble the diff using the sj413 parts until the diff is complete. Pretty simple, no machining just a specail order from your local store to get the right burfeild/cv joint.
I have sj413 parts sitting on the bench and I checked them against evry sj410 part I pulled off the diff and they are the same apart from the burfeilds/cv.
some pics of the difference between the cv's
Standard burfeilds next to SJ413 axles and burfeilds
Sj410 burfeilds/cv's next to standard burfeilds/cv's
And the finished product. Slightly modified for strength and also using the direct steering. Will post more pics on how to do this mod too later.
If you want more details just ask what you need to know.
If I didn't spell burfield right let me know. I just call them CV's.

Diff/axlehousing- LJ
inner shafts- LJ
Barfeilds- SJ410
Inner balls and cage of Barfield- LJ
Knuckles/spindles/and all outers- sj410
I found that during the conversion I had just put the 410 barfs on the LJ shafts but as I put it together the spindle was binding up with the barf/axle. The cause was that the 410 splines inside the barf cage have a clip groove halfway down and that kept the LJ axle from goin all the way into the barfeild making it too long for the setup. So I dissasembled both the LJ and SJ barfs and I used: LJ axleshafts-LJ inner Cage and balls- and SJ barfeild. I found that once I did that the axles could still retain the expansion clip and the other thick clip on the LJ axleshaft. Thus everthing went together like it was made to fit.
