please stop name calling and attacking one person, its not nice and it portrays you badly, I don't know either of you personally but I don't like the way you portray yourselves over the internet

Mr Warlord, you are sooo off my christmas card list Image

Personally I don't give a rats arse what you think of the way I portray myself over the internet... I'm here to help most of the time, but if someones a twat then I'll tell 'em... just as I expect to be called a twat if I am one.

In this situation, I firmly believe the twat is not me (happy to be proven wrong, as always :) ).

Lets clarify something here - the first post was relevant in this thread - when something like this happens, yeah make a big deal of the dangers involved in recovery - thats a point that needs to be made over and over - but thats NOT what the anger in this thread came from... it came from one persons bleating over and over despite what others were saying.

So, you are welcome to your opinion of me... from it I have formed one of you too... but theres enough flaming and bad feeling in this thread, so I'll keep it to myself until a more appropriate time.

Anyway, here are the pics of my factory rear tow point (also a MU) - as I said earlier I took one look at it and made something else - heres what mine looks like, which is why I wouldn't use it, apart from the light-duty unsafe-looking-ness of it (yes, unsafelookingness is a real word :)

Hey everyone as Sadam (Glad you are OK) and most others said way back it is not up to ORE or anyone police any of this we are just a group of people. :!: A group of people chatting just like at a pub :!:

If YOU as a driver take your 4X4 offroad you are responsable to ensure it can be recovered easily and safley, or you may have to grab a shovel and start digging if no one is prepared to pull you out!

Everyone is happy no one was hurt! If I checked the hook I think I would have recovered off it unless it was bent, you cannot protect everyone from everything look at all the power plugs you have in the house every one of those can kill you!

Accidents happen, always will it is up to the recoverer to choose to recover if he / she / they are happy. In this case the choice was made and something went wrong, no one (happily) was hurt everyone is well aware of the risk's again and we will all move on, but I will be checking the hooks on the other 4x4 before I recover them WHEN THAT POINT ARRISES NOT BEFORE! every recovery just in case some damage has occured (hook bent on a rock getting to the point you are now stuck).

Oh on a side note

I personaly would trust Supralux and Leithfeild hooking up a snatch and their judgement because of what they they have said above and I have only met one of them.

warlord225 I would not trust you because from your posts you would hook up anything and it is someone elses responsability to ensure saftey, not yours.

We are each responsable for ourselves and what we do and who we trust hell anyone can say NO sorry I won't do that, but I will help you dig or go get a shovel for you.

Well said that man. :salut: :salut::salut:

This thread has got ridiculous. Theres no point banning vehicles from trips cause they don't have a rated tow hook, they might be happy tagging along at the back and taking the easy road if they have a choice. Its only if, if, if they get stuck, that this tow hook issue arises. (and no i don't stutter  )
If everyone has a sensible approach to checking for appropriate tow points before recovery, then these incidents can be minimised, and i mean minimized, cause no matter how hard we try, there will always be the exception.
Once you've had to spend an hour or two digging yourself out of a bog, the price of fitting a decent tow point gets cheaper and cheaper. But as long as people are prepared to tow off a crap tow point then nothing will change.
We need to have a Sticky thread, where we can post up pics and/or articles about this so people can physically see the potential for injury, death and destruction, but keep the verbal crap out it. Seeing the photo of the back of Sadams truck, i can imagine myself sitting in the drivers seat.  ..................
..helps me decide what sort of points i'd tow off. How about you??

Ok this thread has done its job until the next incident happens,

For the Welly guys I have just set a recovery/trip leader/organiser training day
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/modules ... 4517#54517

There will be someone there to check your hooks and mounts, I will be organising the avaliability of getting your hooks checked anytime for the Welly guys..., which includes all your recovery gear and how its stowed etc

I would encourage this to go nationwide if people are keen and the resources are there,

All this is open to ALL ORE members, and voluntary.

Instead of waiting for something to happen again lets get proactive and set up trips etc where hooks can be checked etc, do some basic recovery training as well.

I don't want this to happen again......The original Saddam has already lost his head....our Saddam nearly did.....there can't be many left to replace him if we needed to
