How many horse power does the Nissan have stock Steve? That would be interesting. And what's the dry weight of the model you have? Those tyres could do with more tread for mud plugging?

85Kw at the fly wheel, just a little less than most 1600's have these days :D
approx 2150kg (plus driver, fuel, gear)not the best power to weight out there thats for sure

ahhh, but it carrys the nissan badge and thats all i need to know.
anyway im only in the modified class so it wont be anything harder than i put this nissan thur. if last years event is anything to go by, i do that as weekly thing. where the toyota had a little more clearance the safari has a solid front diff and rear lsd so they each have there own merits and downers. but i feel more confident in the safari. cant really explain it other than to say its a nissan thing. :D :D

as for under power it seems better than the surf with a 2l-t., but what would i know anyways i am a newbi to the whole event thing so it will be more of a fun day and not about winning and loseing. i dont think you can lose other than breaking the truck. cant wait to get out there and attack some good hazards. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Yeah, so what  What about the torque, shit loads more then a 1600cc
Saying that though, I did fire up the terrano on the weekend, stripped it out to lessen the weight, done a up wee list of small things-to-do (read replace tierod) and she's away. Love that V6, can't wait to spit out a few rooster tails at the crowd.

and that right there is the reason why we do it....and to give each other stick about what they drive but it all comes down to fun, and if your having fun then its all that matters, doesnt matter what you drive really....but a V8 cruiser is more fun

Might be hard to see the rooster tails over the smoke at max revs of the LR Mike, are you going to setup a smoke screen at the speed event or is that only on extreme angles?

Looks like they may have to run an ORE day only sponsoring the sheffield fire service at this rate. Good on all you guys getting out there to have fun and building like mad to try and get there!

Talking about the "Nissan" badge?

I prefered the DATSUN badge myself.
Before they changed it, anything that had DATSUN on it was cool. There was the Datsun 240 or 260Z, that was cool. Then even the Datsun SSS 1600 went like a cut cat. That was SO cool! THEN they changed the badge? (wtf)
Why on earth did they do that??
But since then I turned away from the Nissan.
Toyota never needed to change their name. And I'm proud to drive a Toyota. 8)

I remember the change, I think it was around 1983 that Datsun NZ were forced to rebrand to Nissan

Hulux-Happy had a good idea... is anyone planning to promote the O.R.E. website/community on the day?... seems like a good idea to have someone donating a laptop and wireless internet connection to display the O.R.E. website to 'locals/spectators' and those interested in what O.R.E. is all about... a running commentry could be given 'real time' to those members that can't make it down south to the mudplug so they are sure to know what they're missing out on in the south island

Mike had a big banner made up which we flew over the "camp kitchen" last year... I'm sure that will be available again...

As for wireless internet on a laptop - thats going to get lost in the general movements... we're there to compete or to watch, I doubt the effort would be noticed let alone appreciated...

Banner up, and ORE banners on the trucks... thats probably as good as it'll get...

anyways as soon as my ore sticker arrives its going on the truck. i have my ace4wd stickers on it now so slowly its coming together. but not alot to do seeing as it carrys the nissan badge. go the mighty nissan :thumright:

Hate to pop your bubble Hulux, but the best way to be remebered at Sheffield (or any mud event) is to flop it over (or as good as) or something equally as dramatic, in front of a good crowd.
Just ask H20 or Steve :P :P :P :P

Were there any others in it last year? I don't remember

This, (and the fact my truck is being rebuilt, oh and I don't like mud anymore) are the main reasons I don't eneter these events. I don't know when to back off when there is a crowd watching, and always completly munt something. Just because I like showing off
I do go along and cheer on the boys though :P

yeh you have a good point. but i wont voliteer to roll or do crazy stunts. i will leave it up to the open class guys. me just a simpelton and like mud, not so much damage as i am hoping to drive home afterward. if not, i have a seven point safty plan that should see me right     .

Good point... is the media doing to be there? it's usually pretty easy to organise that sort of thing, a simple 'press release' article faxed to TV3 would work wonders for the Ambulance and Fire Service cause

what needs to be done to obtain a press release, and maybe contacting the organisers would be a good idea. just incase thay have plans already.
if any one that knows it could be good for ore browni points to help out, could be good for clud image. again just a thought.
but you are right azza when you said that it would be good exposure for the fire and ambulance groups :thumright:

Anyone entering able to get extra passes to the pits parking area for immediate pit crew supporters / photographers / banner displayers / cooks and sausage testers?
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.
