only have 50mm lift 33inch silverstones minor front gard cutting need to cut rear gards yet

front gards are wrangler rear flares got a guy to cut gards up to where the side indercaters where the piture of jerry shows how high

33inch silverstones only measure 32.5 inch if u want bigger u have to do queit a bit of lift ............ps thanks jerry

How does it feel on the road with the stock rims on the back and the bigger offset rims on the front?

good as bit bloody noisy have had rim centers shifted and r not balanced but drives realy well have got other rims but need rear gards cut and rangler flares cruizers at 100 km good wheels an r not balanced

It was fun driving it with the screen folded and I got to just under 100 without too much discomfort. Anyone know how Plod views folded screens in NZ? Reading the Land Transport regs I think a mirror on the dash would make it legal as it doesn't mention the need for a screen, but if they wanted to be arsey then they could use the fact it has no wipers when the screen is folded.

The pile contains the rear seat, rear seat belts, carpets, plastic trim round windscreen, rear sport bar padding, nuts from door hinges, water wings, milk bottles, rear mud flaps, front over-riders, front license plate mount, original tow point, ball from rear tow bar, roof and doors (OK so the last 2 aren't permanently removed.

Just checked on the net, they are Kumho - directional tread.

Only drove 2ks or so with the screen down, I was surprised how well my Oakleys kept my eyes from watering. It might actually be fun to use it like that but I'd probably wear my full-face helmet for any long distance.

It feels really narrow without the doors at first and bizarrely with the screen down it feels really wide, probably because of the big flat thing resting across the bonnet.

The tyres are Kumho Roadventure something or others and yes, they are directional (so technically the spare only "fits" one side I guess). They're my first experience of MTRs but I'd say they aren't too noisy and they feel fine in the dry on the road. I haven't really driven it in the wet as it normally lives in the garage with the roof down and aside a mud hole they haven't seen wet off-road yet either.

The roof is off completely today as the zip on the rear window is being replaced. I'm going to get a pair of waterproof canvas seat covers made and then I probably won't bother with a roof at all most of the time; only if it's definitely going to be wet. I also want to get a pair of soft doors I can throw in the back so I can fit/remove them while I'm out, but I'll need a different mirror solution in that case. I already have a SpiderWeb shade top that works really well at keeping the worst of the heat of the sun off and also as a decent windbreak to make the cabin less blowy if the doors are on and the windows up. No point to it when the doors are off and there's a bit of cloud, but I don't feel the need to get a bikini or safari top now. Maybe a duster would be nice though as I worry that anything light will get blown out of the cabin when the doors are off.

leave it up and then get a bikini top made or buy one out of the states for it, and then you wont get wet at all, unless its raining sideways (dont come to welly)

You can get a mirror relocation bracket to permanently take it off the door and mount it on the front windscreen hinge bracket. Omix part number 11026.03 in stainless or 11025.03 in black (pairs). Can price via "JustJeep" on TM if you wish.

I scored a bikini top a few months ago... allllll gooodddddd. Feels claustrophibic when ya have to put the top back on for the nasty rain.

I've heard little but bad about mirror relocation brackets for the original mirrors, but I'll probably have a crack at making some of my own to suit the little moped mirrors I have in the hinges just now - or get a bigger but similar type of mirror and use them.

I'm not sure I want to get into bikini tops because I can't be bothered with the header bodge most of them seem to need and I prefer to run with the door surrounds off most of the time though I guess it's not a biggie to leave them on if I might feel the need for a top. I believe the Mopar one uses the clamp header like the original top does and also that it comes back slightly further to cover the speaker pods so maybe that would be a good option, but I suspect Mopar = $$$ and I think there are more important things to spend $$$ on than another top for the TJ.

Fen, just took the soft top off this morning and popped the bikini top on... took 22 mins in total. The header cost $66.00 and is the bolt in variety.

Is the CJ much smaller than the TJ or is it just the photograph that makes it look that way?

The bolt-in header - is that the "no drilll" one? You have to remove it to put the soft top back on, right? I have to admit I don't totally understand how they work as I have never seen one, but from what I have read they aren't popular and some people seem to have wind noise problems with them (and it must be bad if it's noticeable when a bikini or safari top is on) as well as the extra hassle when swapping between the soft top and other top - 22 minutes isn't bad though I guess.

I'm seriously tempted by the Viking Fastback top as a complete replacement for the soft top. It's expensive but it's supposed to be quieter than the soft top and when it's off there isn't a pile of fabric and metal framework sitting on the tailgate, plus it doesn't look like the bastard child of a ridge tent and a push-chair when it's up. Then again it uses a no-drill header and some people say it can be noisy from the top of the screen, but at least the header could stay on all the time. I'd like to understand better how small it packages when it's off as being able to carry a full top with me when fully open would be my ideal.

Not just the picture Fen, the CJ5 is quite a bit shorter. The CJ7 is nigh on the same in wheelbase as the TJ but is still about 200mm shorter in length.

Just bought another bikini top, + duster and windjammer last night... cant wait to get it on!!!!

Another bikini? I'd be interested to hear what you think of the duster and windjammer in combo, and if the duster can be used on its own.
