hosehustler wrote:Unfortunately it looks as if I may not be attending the easter trip :( my vehicle and I suffered quite a bad fall onto it side today, big time into a rock, has done quite extensive damage, I do hope the coast weekend still goes ahead, i'm sure there's enough experience with Nuts, and Kev.
Luckily i wasn't hurt except a few cuts and scratches, it could of been a lot worse
I'm feeling a bit low about it, but thats 4-wheeling' sometimes it hurts, will look at my optins of repair, body replacement, etc, either way I'll be back hard at the trail as soon as I can, but 3 and a half weeks may be pushing it :(

Some of you on the coast wanted to know what I'd done to my vehicle since this above post....well here's a shot

one tip i have for next years trip is for those not used to winching get some practice as winching will be ineveitable     oh and dont forget a chainsaw :P :P :P :P as the tracks are prone to falling trees blocking them

Here's a video of Shane doing it unassisted.

Heart stopping, undie changing stuff. The photo and video don't do the hill justice at all! I was lowered down on a rope after watching Shane go down . If I'd had a manual I would have driven down, but bugger doing it in an auto... especially a Safari auto!

Matt
We had just as challenging a climb across the river. Not quite as steep but deep ruts and lots of large boulders in the mud.

Everyone bar Leithfield had to winch up this. Kev was only the 2nd vehicle to ever clean this section! (talking pommy trials speak now)

Both vehicles Toyotas of course, both owners members of ORE, both vehicles just a little modded! 8)

Tracks in westport area

The other guys that drove it did quite well(more controlled)the extra weight, auto and not very low gearing of the safari made it a little more interesting, trust me I wasnt trying to put on a show.

Now that sounds like a superb idea......all those that want to a sample what the Coast has to offer could then do "what they feel is best for them" and then re-group together for the "war-stories" (aka...lies etc) in the evening. :D

in fact why don't we let the hillbillys organise this and make this the ORE 2009 National event ? (this years being Rallywoods at Queens Birthday Weekend) and then have it north again in 2010?

I vote that PR organises this

PS we'll bring the bagels

Nappos Hill is a good one for shineys. Has enough adventure but unlikely to do damage to vehicle if driven carefully. Of course that is further south tho.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

Pleased all you peole enjoyed the westcoast trip. A lot of work was put in by nuts and tim organising this event. I was only really a spectator. Most of the tracks around westport are maintained by the buller 4wd club, this is a big job and anyone wishing to help is welcome.
cheers flag.

ok how about this for a shiney run :?: :?: :?:

up the goat track to mount rochford, then thru the mackley

then for the next day they could go to karamea and gravel road it to the opararah arches combined with a little bit of walking makes a magnificent scenery run, as for a 3rd day i will have to think about that as there r a few options

Having just bought a shiney new truck & just getting into 4WDing, I'd welcome an opportunity to participate & an opportunity for events that allow us shiney's & you experienced 4WDers sounds like a good idea.

Yeah, that would be this townie who left his toy behind. I went round everyone I could find and asked them if they had seen it. Mike left it behind. May as well just biff it as it's a warehouse special and not worth sending up.
