Hi team,

I will be keen for this once the venue and dates are sorted. Only date we are really busy is the weekend of the V8's in Hamilton 19 and 20 April) other than that we should be good. Is someone sorting numbers or is it still on the drawing board?

Cheers

Oops I forgot about the tarmac terrors and Jase was the one who originally pushed for this so how does the 5/6th sound for everyone, Mike being the pivotal element of course! :)

Yep the party is coming to town. You have just got to go when the pop it on in your backyard.

5th and 6th of April would be good for us. Has there been any major decisions made on the location as yet?

Unfortunately the critical part only has the weekend 12th and 13th free, so that's the one it will be, sorry Jase, shift the hunting, you can do that anytime.

At this stage the location will be Pete's Place just out of RotoVegas, if that proves too costly, we'll work on using Ngaroma in the Pureora... Don't worry me, it's about the same distance from home. :) I'll work out a budget and cost per person within the next week once I get all the detail nailed down.

I'll make the close off 8am thursday 3rd of April. 10 participants minimum otherwise we'll can it.

Count me in and possibly the wife. Just trying to create some enthusiasm for the family trips. Hopefully everyone will be ok with that.

Absolutely brilliant idea RJ, something we should do more of.

There is however a downside: Eventually you end up with a super tricked out Bright Pink Zuk sitting in your driveway with a personalised plate like HER4X4 and you're stuck with family whale.

Well theres a horrid thought. Nah she is happy in her little black CRV. I have just tried to convince her to sell it and get a PT Cruiser, but alas she wants to keep the CRV. Its more so that she gains a bit of confidence in what I am doing and what the Mitsi is doing. Our maiden voyage up Thomos in the Mitsi with the wife revealed more a lack of confidence in the Mitsi from her side. So thought a course could be good for both of us and also a good chance to catch up with some ORE members as well.

Aaah but that's before she does the course and then discovers that her confidence isn't a problem when SHE is driving... Slippery slope! :). I did a similar thing with my wife many years back. Couldn't get to an Abseil Instructors course because of work. I'd already paid so I thought it would be good for her to do it considering her fear of heights. She did the course... reluctantly I might add. The fear only superceded by wanting to make sure the fee wasn't wasted (too late for a refund and she has Scottish ancestry) Next thing I know she is gallavanting about the place leaping off cliffs squirming through caves and throwing others off cliffs as well and the wardrobe is filling up with carrabiners, climbing harnesses, rope and so on. True Story, ask Mercutio. If the day before that course I had told ANYONE who knew her that within weeks she would be abseiling 100 metre drops they would have all said: "Nah..."

I have just tried to convince her to sell it and get a PT Cruiser, but alas she wants to keep the CRV.

That just proves that she has good taste.

And that is all good, and with a few of the ORE ladies about, like Sez and Shell it would make it easier.... if also slightly corrupting. ;) However, don't say you haven't been warned!

Ah well, we shall see how it goes.

I have just noticed there is another thread about the "Vegas training" in the Events area. Can I assume its the same course? Which thread should we be watching or will we get PM if we have expressed an interest?

That was the dates one, but Brian got overloaded with workshit and so had to flag it. The most popular date in that poll turned out to be the same weekend as the Laurie Sanson Final and I made an executive decision, (vested in me by simple fact that I've taken over organising the bloody thing and I will definitely be at Laurie Sanson that weekend :D) , to change the date.

Of course the fact that the instructor is only available on the weekend of the 12th and 13th might have had something to do with it as well. ;)

Actually you're right that this is really in the wrong place now. Mike or Mark, could you move this thread over to Events please. Might be better.

Just doing the costing now. Total cost will determine the venue, the options right now are Pete's place in Rotorua or Ngaroma Block in the Pureora.

Once I get the instructor fees and other logistics sorted we'll have a per person costing. I'm basing it on minimum of ten participants, if we have a lot of out of towners coming (and it seems we are) I'll cost up meals and accommodation as well.

If it's at Ngaroma it will be an overnighter camp and I may see if I can organise accommodation at the YMCA camp or Tihoi venture school for those that can't cope with tents, or if peeps are happy with tents I'll see if we can use the Wharekai at the local Marae for dining.

I, however, drive my accommodation and dining room! :D

Venue will be at Petes Place in Rotovegas,

Cost $50 or so

Date is the weekend of the 12th and 13th of April

That's the Broad Brushstrokes as of at the moment and I'll have more detail after I see Pete on Thursday.

Suffice to say date and venue is in concrete barring unforeseen natural disaster.

Expressions of interest welcomed at this point. Just add names to the quoted list below.........

Hi Guys,

Can you please head over and sign up on this form so I can capture your details for the enrollments.

http://www.4wdtv.co.nz/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=9

Can you put your mobile number in the notes section. Havnt got around to putting in a mobile number field yet ;-)

Cost of the course itself is Free if you are on the nzqa system or $25 admin fee for getting a nzqa number. There will most likely be a land charge for petes place. Not sure what that is yet but yorick knows. I am trying to get that subsidised a little.

Cheers

Budget $50 per wagon for the Venue hire guys. I'm having a face to face with Pete on sunday to do the final check the place out, pick up the key (and see if I can haggle him down a bit, ;) )but it won't be more than $50.

As Mike said add $25 if you're not NZQA registered.

Plenty of backpackers accommodation available in town and Motels and so on.
